* DESIGN FOR A LADYS COSTUME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,016, dated January 10, 1888.
Application filed December 9, 1887.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENNIE SHEILS, of the city, county, and State of New York, haveinvented and produced a new and original De sign fora Patternof a Ladys Costume; and I do hereby declare that the engraved prints accompanying this specification convey to any one accustomed to using paper patterns a clear understanding of how a garment made up by the pattern will appear.
The design shows a round walking-skirtaud a basque. The skirt displays a kilt-plaited panel on the left side gore and a long front drapery falling even with the edge of the panel at the left edge and in a long point at the right side, the drapery curving away from the point below a group of plaits a little to the right of the center, and exhibits plaits in the top near the left-side edge and upturning plaits in the right-side edge; a straight back draping falling in plaits at the center even with the edge of the skirt, and a boufl'ant back Serial No. 257,470. Term of patent 35 years.
drapery that reveals the straight drapery nearly to the top at the center, falls low in leaf-points at the sides, and displays looping at the center and a downward-turning plait in each front edge near the top. The basque exhibirs close-fitting fronts openingin V shape to the neck over a narrow Breton vest, a close-fitting back falling in two pointed tabs over added tabs of similar outline, lapels passing down the front edges and tapering to points at the end of the vest, a standing collar, and coat-sleeves.
