UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JENNIE SHEILS, OF NEW' YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE BUTTERICK PUBLISHING COMPANY, (LIMITED,) OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A LADYS COSTUME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,949, dated December 13, 1857.
Application filed November 10, 1887. Serial No. 254.876. Term of patent 35 years To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENNIE SHEILs, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original De- 5 sign for a Pattern of a Ladys Costume; and I do hereby declare that the engraved prints accompanying this specification convey to any one accustomed to using paper patterns a clear understanding of how a garment made up by 10 the pattern will appear.
The design shows a polonaise and a round walking-skirt. The polonaise displays a closefitting back that falls nearly to the edge of the skirt and exhibits jabot loopings at the sides and nnderfoldcd fullness at the end of the cen ter seam, falling in straight folds to the edge; close-fitting fronts that displaya closing down the center to a little below the waist-line, the
right front reaching only basque depth, while the left front falls nearly to the edge of the skirt 20 and extends across to the right hip, where it displays draping plaits that lift it with a graceful curve at the bottom, a group of plaits being also seen at the end of the closing, a revers turning to the right from the closing 25 above the bust, coat-sleeves, and a standing collar.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a ladys costume, as shownin 0 the engraved prints accompanying this specification.
