DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.

SPECIFICATION forming' part of Design No. 12,004, dated October 26, 1880.

Application filed August 30, 1880. Term of patent 14 years.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUST WILL, (assigner to DAVID WOLEE BRUCE,) of Jersey City, Hudson county, New Jersey, have in- 5 vented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification.

The nature ot' my design is clearly shown in the accoinpanyiiig typographie impression, to

1o which reference is made; and it consists of a letter ot' the mediaeval period, the up-and-down portions of which are bounded by the heavy lines having inclined sides, as shown. These lines having inclined sides occur at the top I5 and bottom of lall the letters save in the C, E,

F, G, II, S, T, and Z.

In the C, E, G, and S the right'hand portion of the upper cross-line is continued down ward and forms a triangular termination, from zo which projects about centrally a vertical line. In the letter F, from the Lipper cross-line upon the right hand proceeds the curved line, extending below the central part of the letter and terminating in the ball termination. In

2 5 the letter H the upper cross-line upon the right has the triangular termination. In the letters T and Z the upper cross-line upon the left has the triangular termination, followed, in the case of the Z, by a short vertical line projecting 3o downward.

All the letters are ornamented by theheavy dots, as shown in the A and F. These dots are placed above and below the cross-lines of the letters-in the M, W, X, and Z upon each side ofthe central portion of the letters. z

The symbol 85 has its base bounded by a V heavy line having the inclined side upon the left, and the motive of the design is preserved in the hyphen, composed of the cross-line connected at each end to the lines with inclined 4o sides, and in the exclamation and interroga tion points bounded upon their upper sides by the cross-lines with inclined sides.

In the figures 3, 4,6, 8, 9, and Othese bounding-lines are found both above and below, in 45 the figures l, 5, and 7 at the base ot' the figures, and in the tigure2 above the figure. The heavy dots are found in the figures 2, 4, 5, 6,

7, 8, 9, and 0, and in the dollar and pound symbols the cross-lines, with inclined sides, oc- 5o cur at the base of the dollar and at the top and bottom of the pound.

Having now set forth my invention, what I claim as new is- The design for a font of printing-type, sub- 55 stantially as shown and described.
