.To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that LHERMAN IHLENBURG, (as signor to the MACKELLA e, SMIrHs Sn J oRnAN COMIANYJ of the city and county ofPhiladelplia., Pennsylvania., have invented and 'produced n. new Design for a Font of Printing- Type, of which the following is a specification.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, to which reference is made; and it consists ofen nnshaded letter, in which, as in the A B D F L P It. the upnnctdowu portion ol the letter turns to the right hand and terminates in the dot; the lower termination on the left hand of" the A, F, H, J, K, M, N, P, S,.a.nd X is gradually widened, which feature is also found at the upper right hand of the C, E, G, K, S, T, and X; the lower termination of the G is ornamented by the curved line with the dot termination, which ornament is found in the H and the I, crossing the upper portion ofthe same; the M, U, and W are looped, as shown, and the A, G, H, I, K, X, and Y are orne,- mented at the base by the flourishes, as shown.

The character of the design is preserved in the lower-ease, notably in the b, e, f, h, 4lz, l, v, w, and z, and in the numerals.

Having nowdeseribed myinvention, I claim as new- The design for a lont of printing-type, as shown and described, the seme consisting of on unsliairled letter, in which, as in the A L* D F L I It, the np-and-down portion of the letter turns to the right hund and terminates in the dot.; the lower terminal-ion on the lelt lmnd of the A, F, H, J, K, M, N, I?, S, and X is gradually widened, which feature is also found at the upper right hand ofthe C, E. G, K, S, T, and X; the lower termination ol" the G ornamented by the curved line with dot terminations, which ornament is also found in the H and the I, crossing the upper portion of the letter,- -tlie M, U, and W looped, ns shown, and the A., G, H, I, K, X, and Y ornmnented at the buse by the flourishes, as shown, und the character of the design preserved in the lowerease, notably in the b, 0,1', h, k, l, v, w, end z, and in the numerals.
