DESIGN FOR TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming pm of Design no. 16,553, dated March 2. 1886 Application filed January 15, 1886. Serial No. 188,692. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNsT LAUSOHKE, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Designfor a Font-0f Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification, reference-being had to the accompanying typographical illustration, forming a part hereof.
The general character of the design is grotesque, of medium weight; and it consists of capitals, points, character &, and lower-case. The special features are the curved lines, as shown in capitals B D J K L O P Q R, lowercase b d h m n o p q u y, the disconnected center curved lines in capitals B K P R, the mitered vertical inclined and curved lines, and the wholly-severed vertical lines from any 2oother lines of the letters, as shown in lowercase b d h m n pqry z. CapitalsCG and lower-case a of j rs t y have curved hair lines ending with. a heavy dot. Some of the inclined vertical and curved lines of the letters extend below the general line of the other let- 2 5 ters of the design, as shown in capitals AF M' N P Rand lower-case f h m n.
I claim The design for a font of printing-types of grotesque character, the heavy curved lines, c the severed vertical mitered strokes,the disconnected curved lines, and the fine curved lines with dot termination, as described, and shown in the accompanying typographical illustration.
