DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 15,710, dated January 6,1885.
Application filed September 15, 1884. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. HEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Types, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying typographical illustration, forming a part hereof.
The character of the letter is ornamental, without shade or outline; and it consists ofcapitals, lowercase, figures, points, end ornament, catch-word and, and three terminal lowercase letters, h m n.
The letter is a placid lapidary style of a conventional design, a curve ending with a disk or ball being a leading feature.
The letter has a somewhat square appearance in that the main strokes are more of a straight line, while the corners of some of the letters are rounded off.
The weight of the letter is nearly uniform in all parts of same.
A special feature of the letter is the extension of head or main ceriph, as shown on top of capitals J L U V and lower-case b d h ij k l r u v. Another similar feature is the 0X- tension of the diagonal ceriphs, as shown in lower-case a c s z and in figures 2 3 5 6 7 9. An entirely new feature of the letter is the horizontal bottom stroke of capital S, lowercase s, and dollar-mark, which extend beyond the main body of the letter. The center strokes of capitals A B H K P R and lowercase a b d k p q are disconnected from the main stroke of the letter, as is also the horizontal bottom stroke of capital D.
I claim The design for a font of printing types without shade or outline, as described, and shown in the typographical illustration.
