ERNST LAUSCHKE, OF LAKE, ASSIGNOR TO ARTHUR M. AND ALSON E. BAltNI-IART, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,800, dated October 18, 1887.
Application filed May 31, 1887 Serial No. 239,911. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNST Lan'sonnn, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing in the town of Lake, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new andorigi nal Design fora FontofPrint-i ngType, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying typographical illustration, forming a part hereof.
The general character of the design is semi- Gothic of medium weight; and it consists of capitals, figures, points, character &, dollarlnark, one center and one end ornament.
The general features are a combination of the Gothic with the style known as Latin,
the upper half of such letters as A, B, D, H,
1,.l, L,N, I, RV, X, and Y being pn rely Gothic, while the lower half is Latin.
The special features are shown in capitals Eand F, the center horizontal strokes which extend slightly beyond the upper line being sharpened or mitered on both sides at the end. In capital G the center line starts flush with the lower curved line, runs inward, bending slightly down, and ends with a disk; capital H, the two strokes are wider apart at the bottom than at the top, the line connecting them running from near the middle of the left-hand line diagonally upward to near the top of the right-hand line; capital M, the two outside shown and described, having the upper half of such letters as A, B, l), H, I, J, L, N, P, It, V, X, and Y strictly Gothic and the lower half Latin, and having the letters M and \V of converging side lines joining a shorter middle line by short curves, letters E and F having their middle lines as long as the top lines, letterGhaving the center eross-line flush with the curve at its outer end, terminating inwardly in a disk, and letter T having its top line mitered in the same direction at both ends and the remainder a curve of helical form, substantially as set forth.
