Specification forming part of Design No. 9,878., dated April 3, 1877; application filed March 12, 1877. [Term of Patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMES M. OoNNER, of Greeuville, Hudson county, New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Type, of which the following is a specification The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and consists of a letter in which the up-and-down lines are provided with the curved or ball terminations, and shaded upon the right and bottom by a lighter line.

In the letters A, H, I, K, M, T, V, W, X, and Y the curved or ball terminations occur at the top and bottom of the letter, and upon the right and left of the up-and-dowu lines. In the letters B, D, E, F, J, L, P, and R the curved or ball termination characterizes the up-and-down line of the letter at top and bottom, and in the letters E, F, and L the hori zontal lines of the letter terminate in the curved or ball termination, and the lower portion of the letter R has the curved or ball termination upon the right. The letter C has the curved or ball termination at its upper right hand, while its lower termination is abrupt. The letter G has the curved or ball termination at top and bottom, and on the right and left of the lower termination. In the letter L the horizontal line of the letter has the curved or ball termination. In the letter N the up-and-dowu line has the curved or ball termination at top and bottom, and upon the right hand and left hand, and the up-anddown line upon the right has the curved or ball termination at the top, and upon the right hand and left hand, and the cross-line is provided with a partially-curved line near its base. The letters S and Z are provided with the curved or ball termination, as shown. The up-and-down lines of the letter U are provided at their top with the curved or ball terminations upon the right hand and left hand. Both terminations of the symbol 86 are provided with the curved or ball terminations. The exclamation-symbol is provided with the curved or ball termination upon the right hand and left hand, at the top of the up-and-dowu line. The interrogation-symbol has the curved or ball termination at the left of its up-and-down line. The dollar-symbol has the curved or ball termination on the right and left. In the figures the curved or ball termination occurs at the base of the figure 1, both upon the right hand and left hand, and upon the right of the top of the same line. The figure 2 terminates at top and bottom in the curved or ball termination, as do the figures 3, 5, and 7. The up-aud-down line of the figure 4, at its base, has the curved or ball termination upon its right hand and left hand. The figure 6 terminates at its top upon the right in the curved or ball termination. The figure 9 terminates at the bottom upon the left in the same way.

In the lower-case the letters a, c, d, s, and u have the curved or ball termination at the top and bottom. In the letter b the top of the up and-down line terminates in the curved or ball termination. The lower portion of the letter c has the curved. or ball termination. The upper portion of the letter f terminates in the curved or ball termination, and at its base in the curved or ball termination, both upon the left and right hand. The letter g has the curved or ball termination at its top upon the right hand. The curved or ball termination is found at the top of the up-anddown line of the letter h, and at its base both upon the right hand and the left hand. The letter i has the curved or ball termination at its top upon the left, and at its base both upon the right hand and left hand. curved or ball termination is found in the letter j at top and bottom. In the letter k the up-and-down line of the letter at its top has the curved or ball termination upon the left, at its base upon the left and right, and the inclined lines of the letter have it at top and bottom upon the right and left. The up-auddown line of the letter 1 is similar to the upand-down line of the letter k.
