The general character of my design is a corn bination of certain features of the Old Style letter with certain features of the Celtic letter. It has a shade or outline, is of medium weight, slightly extended, and somewhat ornamented, and consists of capitals, lower-case letters, figures, points, character 8s, and dollar-mark, also an additional form of capital O, with a heavy shaded bar extending obliqnely downzo ward from right to left, and two ornaments.

rIhe peculiar distinguishing features are` first, that of the vertical and inclined initial and terminal lines, the outward boundary curves outward and the inner boundary curves inward at the top or bottom, or both, thus forming on such lines a sharp-pointed concaved ceriph, blending gradually with the line; second, that the shades or outlines stand detached from the bodies of the line, to which 3o they respectively pertain, except where in some cases the shade or outline of a curve is necessarily made to seem to disappear behind the body of the line, and seems to join it, as in the vertical strokes of capital M, where the outline seems th join the ceriph at the bottom,

and in the capital O, wherein the outside shade line seems to join the body at the lower left hand.

Capital A of my design his a heavy hori zontal line extending across the top of the let- 4o ter, curving up at each end ofthe same, thence slantiug down and outward, the cross-stroke connecting the two angles being curved. The heavy diagonal lower right-hand stroke, capitals K and R, cross the connecting line and project slightly into the center of the letter. The Old Style Celtic character is preserved in the design of the lower-case letters.

A special feature is shown in formation of lower-case e. The cross-line, instead of extending in a horizontal direction, is drawn obliquely toward the upper curved portion, where it connects, thus completing the letter. Lower case g is formed by a half-circle at the left side, above the line, while the perpendicu- 5 5 lar stroke extending below the line ends in a curve to the left with a swell.

All the figures are uniform, in that they do not present an irregular appearance, extending above and below the line. Eo

I claim- The design for a font of printing-types herein shown and described, having body-lines medium heavy, shade-lines detached,and ceriphs, wherever they appear, light and tapering off from the body-lines to sharp points.
