DESIGN FOR PRINTING-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,161, dated August 8, 1882.
Application tiled June 20. 1882. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL MLLER, a citizen ot' the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and prodnccda new and original Design for a Font ot' Printing- Type, which Idesignate Normaiitly,ofwhich the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying typographie 1o impressions of the same.
My new design consists of an alphabet of lower-case and capital letters, with numerals, pnnctnationmarks, beginning, central, and end pieces, as shown.
The general character ot the new design may be described as consisting of light, medium, condensed, ornamental letters, having their lines scrolled and ending with light dots either at their beginning or termination, or
2o both.
The lower-case letters k, i, j, o, v, and w and the capitals V and NV are peculiarly formed, k having its lower slanting line extended upward across the upper slanting line at a point about one-eighth (g) ot' the length of the letter,
i and j having star-shape dots, o having cenl tral slanting parallel lines, the lower-case and capital letter V having the downward strokes extended across each other about one-third (5) of the length ot' the letter from the bottoni, and a horizontal line connecting the points ot' those downward strokes, forming a triangle, and the lowercase w having itslowcr and npper central parts and the capital W its lower parts formed like the lower parts of the letter V. The capital D is provided with an ornament, as shown, and the capitals I, N, O, Q, U, X, and Y have connected with them ornaments, terminating in scrolls and light dots.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The new design for a font of printing-type, having the letters, numerals, and ornaments formed as herein described, andas shown in the printed specimens.
