Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEICE.
ASSIGNOR TO ARTHUR M. BARNHART,
SPINDLER, ALL oF sAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,805, dated March 14, 1882. Application filed January 27, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES E. HEYER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Types, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying typographical illustration, forming a part thereof.
The characters consist of capitals, lowercase, points, figures, and two ornaments. The face is of medium weight, and is of Gothic or block-letter style, differing from either and any similar face, in that all the letters have a spur-like ce1" h and a square and pointed appearance. The perpendicular strokes of the letters are somewhat heavier than the horizontal strokes. A number of the letters have also inside spur-like ceriphs, instead of a heavy horizontal stroke. (See capital letters A F H I J KLMNPRUVWVXYandtheiguresland 4.) The lower-case letters b, f, h, i,j, k, l, 1n,
n, r, u, v, w, X, and y have either on top or bottom, or both, spur-like ceriphs. The center cross-strokes of capital letters A and H run through the left main stroke, and the ends of said strokes have spur-like ceriphs, and the center strokes of capital letters E and F and figures 3 and 4 end with the same kind of ceriphs. The short perpendicular strokes or flags of capital letters C, E, F, G, J, L, S, T, and Z, the lower-case letters a, c, e, g, r, s, y, and z, the figures 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9, and the character E end with horizontal spur-like ceriphs on either side. The flags of lower-case letters f and j taper down to a point. The two ornaments are similar in style with the appearance of the letter.
The design for a font of printing-types, as herewith described and illustrated.
CHAS. E. HEYER.
