Be it known that I, DAVID VOLFE BRUCE, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated and designed a new Pattern i'or the Lower-Case Letters ofa Font ot' Script Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, lo which reference is made; and consists of the lowercase letters ot' a t'ont ot' script printing-type of somewhat similar character to the lower-case letters of the design for which I was granted Letters Patent No. 5,814, dated April 23, 1572, but differing materially from thatfand from every other design ot' which l have knowledge, in weight of face and proportion.

The weight of face differs from previous designs in being lighter than some in proportion to their height and counter, and heavier than others in proportion to their height and counter. The turns are sharped or more nearly approacing an angle than previous script designs, and the hair-lines ot the letters commence and end nearer the top and bottom of the body-marks than any other script type which has anything like the weight of face in.
