DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.

Specification forming part of Design No. 9,185, dated April 4, 1876; application filed March 17, 1876. [Term of Patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID WOLEE BRUCE, of the city and county of New York and State of' New York, have originated and designed a new Design for a Font of Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification p The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, to which reference is made, and consists of a font ot' lower-case, capitals, points, and figures, designed as shown.

This design is in character with what is known among English andl Americans as secretary, and among French and others as ronde The capitals have less resemblance, however, to script, and more nearly approach German text. They are so formed as to re semble as nearly as possible such a design as might be selected as most convenient for indorsing legal documents, &c., being a combination of such bold sweeps as might be made Vwith a pen or brush, with hair and heavy shade-lines, gradually tapering and terminating, in a few' cases, with dots or points. No ourishes of' any account. Figures and points in character. The lower-case lettes diifer in proportion from the ordinary secretary letter; the ascending and descending letters not projecting so far above or below the line in proportion to the size ofthe other letters, and all are more condensed but higher in proportion to the height of the capitals.
