[Term of patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DAVID WOLFE Bacon, of the city and county of New York, and State of New York, have originated and designed a new Design or Pattern for a Font of ()rnamental Printing-Types, of whichthe following is a specification:

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, which serves as drawing, and to which reference is made; and consists of lower-case, capitals, points, and figures.

The body of the letter or character is similar in design to what printers and type-founders call Aldine, considerably condensed or compressed in width, and is surrounded by a continuous shading hair-line following the course of the body-lines, being as nearly as may be parallel thereto, at very slight distance at the left-hand side and upper portions of the letter or character, but at greater distance atthe ri ght-hand side and lower portions. From the shading hairline mentioned above, at the right-hand side and lower portions of the letter or character, extending toward the right and downward at an angle, say, of forty-five degrees, certain short hair'lines, of equal weight and equal distances apart, parallel one with another, form a supplementary ray shade for the adjacent portions of the letter or character.

The whole design resembles more nearly than any otherDesi gn No. 3,237, for which Lctters Patent, dated November 17, 1868, were granted to me, but differs from it, and consequently from every other, because of being much lighter in weight of its body-lines, being greatly condensed or compressed in width, and having the shading hair-line much closer to the right side of the letter or character than it is to the lower side thereof, and having the hair-lines forming the ray-shade at the right of the letter or character shorter, these diti'ercnces combined producing a design having an entirely new and difi'erent effect from any design hitherto produced.

The design or pattern for a font of ornamental printing-types, as shown and described.
