DESIGNFOR CAPITALS. POINTS. AND FIGURES 0F A FONT 0F PRINTING-TYPES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,580, dated October 10, 1876; application filed September 27, 1876. [Term of Patent 14 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID WoLFE BRUCE, of the city and county of New York, and State oi' New York, have originated and designed a new Design or Pattern for Capitals, Points, and Figures for a Font of Ornamental Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, to which reference is made; and consists of capitals, points, and figures composed of lilies of uniform weight or thickness, bifurcated at the extremities, or other convenient points, to preserve the design.
Certain connections, usually made through an abrupt angle, are formed by curved continnations of the forked portions of the letter or character. The inner angles of the M and W each connect nearer the longitudinal center of the letter than usual.
Each character has a shade-line of uniform light weight to the right and below, detached or semi-detached-in some cases beginning, in others ending, in connection with the bodylines of the characters; in other cases, still, having no positive connection whatever, but in all preserving an apparent uniform distance.
The design differs from others in the weight of face, as compared with the size, as well as in condensation, thc forked portions, curved angles, and the shortened connection of the inner angles of the M and W.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design or pattern for capitals, points, and iigures for a font of ornamental printingtypes, as shown and described.
