To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that 1', \Viipipuu \Y. .LieksoN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font ot' lrinting lypes, of which the following is a specification, ret'erenee being hall to the aeeonipanyingillustration,t'orlningaparthereol'.
This letter is what may he called at -"eharaetenseript, and consists of eapitals, lower case, figures, and points. A special feature is shown in the irregular untinished or broken appearance ot eapitals ll A F (i ll l l' K 11' N 1 T H S X. the tirst or main stroke lClllllHZll ing abruptly at the bottom. The figures lllll t'ate the old-style in (-haraeter, the intention being to make them appear irregular and of different sizes. All the lowercaseletters (excepting 1', g. j, l, and p) are so cut as to avoid t kerning. and they are constructed to C()1l l form to the capitals being shaded on the downl strokes. The loops of the descending, and ascending letters are short. while the body otl the same is eorrespondiugh large. A speeial feature iS shown in solueol'the lower ea e letters, as follows: t' terminates below the line with a heavy strokmwilhout loop and curves toward the led. The loop at the t-euter on right Side of loner-ease p is roun l-like and terminates near the main or oblique stroke. The eross-strt'ilujt lowerea e t isdiagonal l'roni left; to right, heginuing with a lie-ht line and graduating to a swell where it ends.
