DESIGN FOR A FONT OF ORNAMENTAL PRINTING-TYPES.

Specification forming part of Design N 0. 10,022, dated May .29, 1877 application filed May 7, 1877. [Term of Patent 14 years.]

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JULIUS HERRIET, of the city and county of New York, and State of New York, have originated and designed a ew Design or Pattern for a Font of Ornameintal Printing-Types, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and consists of a font of lower-case, capitals, points, and figures, belonging to that class of letter or character commonly denominated as black, and is Italianized, or having the up-and -down strokes or body lines of heavier weight or thickness at the top and bottom than at intermediate portions, there being a gradual taper from a minimum of thickness or weight at the central portions to a maximum in the extremities, which again taper 0K to points in a manner common to others of the black character. It is also Italicized, or leaning toward the right.

The design difi'ers from every other of its class in either one or all of the following-mentioned particulars: first, in being Italicized, or leaning toward the right; second, in being Italianized, or having the upper and lower portions of the up-and-down strokes of heavier weight or thickness than intermediate portions; also, in the comparative great weight of the upper and lower portions, and light weight of the intermediate portions, and the gradual taper from. one to the other; third, in the addition of the curved or curling hairlines to the capitals A B E F and others, the tendril-like ornament pendant from the tongue of the capital F and the right-hand upper portion of the capital T, and the curved saberlike points at the bottom of the capitals A M N and others; fourth, in the addition of the three diagonal bars or lines, forming connection between the light hair-lines extending upward and downward through some of the capitals and the heavy or body lines.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The design or pattern for a font of ornamental printing-types, as shown and described.
