Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID W. BRUCE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,252, dated May 2, 1876; application filed March 31,1876.
[Term of Patent 14 years] To all wh'om it may concern:
Be it known that I, DAVID WoLFE BRUCE, ot' the city and county of New York, and State ot' New York, have originated and designed a new Design or Pattern for a. Font of Printing- Types, of which the following is a specification:
The nature ot' my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, to which reference is made; and consists of lower-case, capitals, points, and figures, of' a general Roman character, skeletonized or outlined, presenting the appearance ot' a White letter, with a rather light black shade to the right and below.
The stem and other parts of the body, which, in ordinary Roman letter, end in horizontal lines or plain angles, are, as a rule, carried into trit'olinted extremities with a sort of pointed leaf in the center, and a. curled or drooping one on the right and left. In sonne cases one or more of these leaves are missing, land the vacancy supplied by a characteristic connection with sonic other portion ot' the body of the letter, or by a terminating scroll. In other cases they all remain, and are supplelnented in like manner.
The stems ot' the lower-case letters are enlarged about midway from top to bottom into a small point on the right and left, and some of the capitals have an enlargement in a certain part of the body, similar to one ot' the points of the leaf-like extremities.
The figures and points are in character with the capitals.
The letters or characters all have a. shadeline of uniform light weight on the right side and below, following in general the shape of the body and its projecting portions, and beginning and ending in connection with it.
What I claim of my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design or pattern for afont of printingtypes, as shown und described.
DAVID WOLFE BRUCE.
