Description

WILLIAM 1I. PAGE, OF NORVVICH, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO VILLI'AM II. PAGE & CO., OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR PRINTING-TYPE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,073, dated December 23,1873; application filed October 27, 1873. [Term of Patent i years] To all whom `it may Concern:
Be it known that I', NVILLIAM H. PAGE, of Norwich, in New London county and State of Connecticut, have invented a Design for an Alphabet of Letters for Printing Purposes, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying printed illustration, to which reference is made.
The distinctive character of my alphabet is evident in the general appearance and proportions of both the capitals and small letters, for the small lines, although slnall for the size ot' the letter, are larger than the common lioinan line, and nearly all of the straight parts of the letters are curved upon each side, being narrowest at their eenter and gradually widen each way to the eeriphs, the curved side lines becoming sharper eaeh Way from the center till they forni the inner lines ot' the eeriphs. o
These eeriphs are made smaller, and have their ends beveled, converging outward, and al1 the terminations are also beveled in like manner. The hook ot' the L and similar parts of other letters are also formed with straight lines, both outside and inside, and a small angle or point is added to the eireular termination of the J and small f, and other similar parts.
These peculiar features of my alphabet ot' letters distinguish it from either the Roman or antique. rlhe accompanying print shows these peculiar features and the proportions of my eXtra-eolulensed alphabet ot' letters.
That I claim as my invention is-- lhe design for an alphabet of letters, having substantially the forni and proportions herein deseribed.
