DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,968, dated June 13, 1882.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN IIILENBL'RG, (assignor to MAGKELLAR, SmTns& Jonnmn) of the city and county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font ot' .lrinting- Type, of which the followingis a specification.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompany ing; typographic impression, to which reference is made; and it consists of it letter of the autiqnecharaeter with heavy hall terminations.

1n the H, N, U, V, and \V the righthand up'and-downportionoftheletterextendsuhove the left-hand portion of theletter, and in the H, M, andN the left-hand portion of the letter extends below the line. In the .T, X, and Y the lower portion ot'the letter extends below the line, as shown.

The character of the design is preserved in the lower-case and numerals, as shown.

In connection with the font, and forming part of the same, are shown the ornamented justitiers, one upon the left and two upon the right of the numerals. That upon the left may be described as a heavy dot, succeeded upon the right by a figure formed by a, heavy line gradually widening atits upper portion,

the sides of which are inclined, and at this point met centrally by u heavy line extending to the right and terminating in a heavy dot. Thisline isoruan-tented above and below by the heavy pennated-like tieures, succeeded on the right by the curved hues ahove and below, curving to the left, and terminating in the heavy dots. The second ornamental jnstitier upon the right of the numerals eonsistsoi the semi-elliptical curved figures, one end termi nating in the heavy dot and the other in the curve, as shown. Between these, on the lelt,is the figure gradually widening at its base, and upon the right the heavy rhomlmidul tigure, terminating on the lett in theline intersecting theeurved tignres. The third t'orln ot'justitiers consists ot two heavy dots placed about centrally upon each side of a line having a spearhead-like ornament at its upper and lower termination.

Having now set forth my invention, l claim as new The design for a font of printingtype, as show u and described.
