19,351, dated October 8, 1889.
Application led July 25, 1889. Serial No. 318,669. Term of patent years.

Be it known that I, JOHN YVEST, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois,have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing-Type, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention consists of a design for afont of printing-type of vertical letters formed of heavy smooth lines, many of the letters and some of the numerals having heavy scrolls, and the other portions of the font being formed as hereinafter described, and as shown in the printed copies.
The back lines of A, I-I, M, N and the lower front portions of K, R, and k extend below the bottom of the other portions of these letP ters. The lower portions of the back lines of A, H, and M, the lower front portions of B, K, Zand the numeral 2,the upper portions of C, D, and S, the stems of F, J, and P, the upper portions of the back lines of U, V, and W, the lower portion of the character d: and of the numeral 5, and the upper portion of G all terminate with heavy scrolls. The upper portion of the back line of A is curved and extended forward beyond and touches the top of the front line of this letter. The middle of A and II consists of a heavy smooth oblique line flowing into the front and back lines of these letters.
I claim- The new design for a font of printing-type of vertical letters formed of heavy smooth lines, the back lines of A, II, M, and Nand the lower front ortions of K, R, and k extending below the bo tom of the otherportions of these letters, the letters A, B, C, D, F, H, J,I{,M,P, Q, S, ILV, W, and Z, the character da, and the numerals 2, 5, and 6 having heavy scrolls, and the other portions of the font being as described and shown.
