DESIGN FOR PRINTING-TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,092, dated July 25, 1882. Application filed May 26, 1882. Term of patent '7 years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I WILLIAM WV. JACKSON. (assignor to MAC KELLAR, SMITHS 8: J ORDAN,) of the city and county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Font of Printing- Type, of which the following is a specification.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to which reference is made; and it consists of a heavy unshaded letter somewhat of the class known as mediaeval, the up and down portions of which, as in the G, G, O, and Q, are inclined upon thelet't in the G and G, and upon the left and right in the O and Q to a central point,while the upper and lower portions ot all the letters savethe U,V, W,and Y are horizontal. In the A theleft-hand portion extends below the line and terminates in the dot upon theleft. The cross-line extends to the left of the up-and-down portion, terminatesin the dot, and is extended to the right and gradually widens. In theB,U,E,F,G,H,J,K, L,M,N,P,Q,R, S,T, and Z the dot termination is also found,asshown. The M is composed of a heavy central up-and-down portion, from which extend on each side, forming a continuation of the upper horizontal line,the inclined sides followed by lighter lines curved inward and outward with dottermination. The right 0 hand portion of the N is similar in design. In the U the left-hand portion is inclined, and is followed by a curved poltion extended upward, and terminating in the dot, as shown. In the V the right-hand portion is curved up- 5 ward to the right, and has the dot termination, as shown. The W is simply the M reversed. In the X the dot termination follows one portion of the letter,which extends below the line. In the Y the upper portion has the 40 dot termination upon the right hand.

The character of the design is preserved in the numerals.

Having now set forth my claim as new is-- The design for a font of printing-type, substantially as shown and described.
