To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HERMAN IHLENBURG, (assignor to DAVID WOLFE BRUcE,) of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and originated a new Design for a Foot of Printing-Type, of which the following is a specification.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographic impression, to

which reference is made; and it consists of, a

heavy letter, somewhat similar to the class known as mediteval, shaded upon the right and below by a lighter line. Upon the upper left-hand portion of the letters, except the (J,

G, O, Q, and S, this light-shade line also occurs, and is curved, save in the letter M, in which a horizontal line is used. The lower left-hand termination of the A is ball-shaped. The upper right-hand terminations of the O,

F, and G are triangular, followed by the balltermination. The upper and lower righ t-hand terminations of the E are triangular, followed bytheball-termination. Thelowerright-haud terminations of the L, M, and Nare ball-shaped.

Both terminations of the S and Q are hallshaped. Both the upper terminations of the T are ball-shaped.

In the letters A and U the left-hand portion gradually widens abontcentrally, and thischaracteristic is found in both the right-hand and 0 left-hand portions of the M, 0, Q, V, and W, and in the righthand portion of the N. In the symbol & this characteristic is also found, and the bull termination occurs on the right.
