DESIGN FOR A FONT OF PRINTING-TYPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,591, dated December 6, 1881.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWIN C. RUTHVEN, (assignor to MACKELLAR, SMITHS 8a JoRDAN,) of the city and county ot' Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented and produced n new and original Design for fi- Font of Printing- Type, of which thefollowing is nspeeitication.

The nature of my design is clearly shown in the accompanying typographie impression, to which reference is made; and it consists of a text-letter ornamented `about centrally by a short light horizontal line, followed bya heavy short horizontal line, below which-is placed a light short horizontal line. The letter is also ornamented hyacentral verticalline extending above and below the letter proper, and provided with the Spearhead-like termination at top and bottom, the upper termination being more clearly defined than the lower termination.

In the letters S, X, Y, and Z the up-and- 2o down portionsof theletterarecomposed in the S of the two light lines with space between them, and in the X,Y,and Z of the heavyline shaded by a light line, with space between 'I`he design l'or afont of printing-type, ns 3o shown lnld described.
