At the ends of the stippled background are curved narrow beads with straight ends, and with a narrow bead extending from their centers to the plain end parts of the entablature, which end parts have wide beads with ornamental upper ends. The space between the curved beads and the plain end parts is ornamented with parallel lines. Below the entablature is a plain space, H, for the name-card.
At the bases of the pillars F is an ornamental double molding, I. In the space between the space H, the pillars F, and the double molding l is a panel, J, the middle part of which is filled with diagonal squares, each of which has an ornament within it.
In the upper part of the panel J is a circular boss, ornamented with radial leaf-shaped ornament-s, and having a cavity in its center. The upper half of the boss and the space oecnp ied by the ornamental squares are surrounded with a head. The corners of the ornamental panel, at the opposite sides of the upper halfof the boss, are ornamented with ornamental scroll-work on a stippled back ground.
In the lower part of the panel J is a small circle ornamented with straight parallel lines, and in which is the key-hole. Upon the middle part of the ornamental door-panel J is represented a stem with leaves.
Below the double molding I is an ornamental scroll-work, K, with a stippled background. Below the scroll-work K is a rectangular space, L, surrounded with a bead, and ornamented with diagonal squares having ornaments within them. Above the space L is an ornamental leaf-work, M, and below the said space L is an ornamental leaf and scroll work, N. Projecting from the space L is the bell-knob, made to represent the neck and head 0 of an unknown or imaginary animal, the head being represented with the mouth open.
Above the entablature G is an ornamental moldin g, P, having an arched molding, Q, above it. The space between the moldings I Q is ornamented with leaf-work R.
Above the molding Q, is a circular or funnel-shaped mouth-piece, S, beneath which is an ornament, T, in a stippled background. Above the mouth-piece S are two ornamental moldings, U, inclining upward and toward each other, and between and above their upper ends is an ornamental leaf-work, V.
What I claim as my invention is 1. The design for a letter-box formed of the ornamental scroll-work K on a stippled bacle ground, the double molding I, the pillars F, with ornamental bases and capitals, the panel J, ornamented with diagonal squares having ornaments within them, the ornamented boss, the ornamented circle, the stem and leaves, the bead, and the scroll-work, the plain space H, the entablature G, ornamented with the word Letters in a stippled background, the heads, the lined spaces, and the moldings, the straight molding P,the arched molding Q, and the leaf'work It, substantially as herein shown and described.
