При горячей прокатке полосы в прокатном производстве время от времени вдоль зазора между валками имеет место различное по величине обжатие, что объясняется изменениями твердости прокатываемого материала, самого зазора между валками или геометрией прокатываемого материала, поступающего на вход. Это различное по величине обжатие приводит затем к боковым отклонениям и смещению прокатываемого материала в прокатной клети, а также к скручиванию горячекатаной полосы по краям на выходе.
