Abstract

1,143,230. Cartons. SPRINTER-PACK A.B. 14 April, 1966 [23 April, 1965], No. 16475/66. Heading B8P. A carton comprising a base tray with a lid hinged thereto, and formed from a single blank, has a hinge panel 17 linking the bottom of one wall 10 of the lid to the top of one wall 2 of the base. In the erected condition the hinge panel 17 lies flat against the outside of the wall 2, being held in position in the embodiment shown by flaps 21, hinged to end flaps 6 along a continuation of the fold line 19 which joins the hinge panel 17 to the wall 2. The flaps 21, 6 are folded at right angles to the wall 2 (see Fig. 3, not shown), and the side walls 4, 5, Fig. 2, are then folded up against them. Extensions 7 on the walls 4, 5 are then folded in over the flaps 21, 6, and similar flaps 6 on the opposite wall 3, and are glued thereto. Alternatively the extensions 7 may be secured by co-operation with slots in the bottom panel 1 of the base. The lid is erected in a similar way to the base. In a further embodiment the flaps (21<SP>1</SP>), Fig. 6 (not shown), attached to the hinge panel (17) are shorter than the end flaps (6<SP>1</SP>), which are tapered, and slots (23) are provided in the fold line (20) between the flaps (6<SP>1</SP>) and the wall (2), to facilitate folding. In addition extensions (3a, 11a) are provided on the walls (3, 11) of the base and lid respectively. In a further form the ends of the side walls of the base are connected by integral corner portions (6a, 6b), Fig. 7 (not shown), which fold along oblique fold lines (24) to form gusset folds which are glued to the inner sides of the walls (4<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>1</SP>). The flaps (21<SP>1</SP>) on the hinge panel (17) are connected to the portions (6b) through fold lines.
