Abstract

920,831. Cartons. R. DIXON. May 1, 1959 [Feb. 8, 1958], No. 4196/58. Class 18. A carton is folded up from a blank as in Fig. 1 scored to provide a base 1, sides 2, having fold-in flaps 7, ends 3 and lid 5 hinged to one side 2, the the sides and ends being connected by gussets 4 coated on one side with an adhesive and arranged to fold into or externally of the carton and adhere to hold it erected. In a modification, wings 7x are connected to the end flaps 7 and to the adjacent gusset 4, which, fold in against the flaps on erection, see Fig. 3. In a further modification, each gusset is formed with an arcuate cut transverse to its diagonal crease which divides it into inner and outer portions arranged on erection to lie respectively against an inner side and an end. In yet another embodiment, each gusset is divided by longitudinal creases into inner and outer portions which on erection fold internally or externally of the carton and adhere to the sides and ends thereof.
