Abstract

869,286. Cartons. DIXON, R. Jan. 22, 1959 [Oct. 23, 1957], No. 33027/57. Class 18. A sealed carton for e.g. frozen foods is made up from a blank as shown in Fig. 1. Base side panels 3, 4 and end panels 6, 6 are connected by gusset portions 10 and 11 and parts shown as shaded are treated with adhesive on their outer surface, so that after the sides 3, 4 and ends 6, 6 are folded in normal to the base 1, end extension flaps 8 are folded in parallel to the base 1 and top end panels 7 are folded in against the underside of the top 2, the top 2 is folded down and the adhesive surfaces of the flaps 8 and the top ends 7 co-operate. Top side extension flap 12 is then folded flat against the underside of top side 5 and stuck to the cooperating adhesive surface of the base side 3. In one modification, the base end flaps 8 have no wings 9 and gussets 10 are the same shape as gussets 11, while the side 3 has an extension flap to co-operate with an adhesively treated top side. In another modification, the top is formed in two parts, connected to sides 3 and 4.
