Abstract

894,835. Cartons. REED CORRUGATED CASES Ltd. May 11, 1960 [May 28, 1959], No. 18253/59. Class 18. A carton, tray, &c. comprises a rectangular base 1 having triple thickness end walls 7 and side walls 5 hinged thereto, each of the walls 7 having pockets or slots 13, 12 which, when the walls 7 are erected, face respectively upwards and laterally thereof, the walls 3 having hinged tabs 4 adapted to engage in the pockets 12 and at least one side wall 3 having a hinged flap 5 adapted to extend over at least part of the top of the erected box and which has hinged tabs 6 to engage in the pockets 13. The carton is formed from the blank of Fig. 1 by folding wings 9 back beneath panels 11 which are then folded about fold lines 8 to lie on top of panels 12 and staples 11 are driven through each end wall 7. The walls 7 are folded to lie perpendicular to the base 1. The tabs 4 are inserted in the pockets 12 and the flaps 5 are folded over the top of the box and the tabs 6 inserted in the pockets 13. The flaps 5 may each extend over half the top of the box or only one flap may be provided to extend completely over the top of the box. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the wings 9 are extended and bent so that they can be secured by staples to the walls 7 to form a triangular section pocket.
