1452055 Knock-down boxes TILLOTSONS CORRUGATED CASES Ltd 8 Feb 1974 [26 Jan 1973] 4023/73 Heading B8P A knock-down box is formed from three blanks, one blank, Fig. 3 (not shown), forming a bottom panel and hinged sidewall panels 2, and two identical blanks, Fig. 4 (not shown), each forming an end wall panel 3, which is secured to the side panels by overlapping end or side panel flaps 7 and 8, with medial coplanar fold lines 4 and 26 being provided in the end and bottom panels to facilitate collapse of the box and each sidewall panel being provided with a supporting strap 9 which partially extends over the otherwise open top to form a stacking surface and which is secured at each end to the end panels or to reinforcing flaps 18 extending along the upper edges of the endwall panels. In the embodiment of Figs. 1 and 2, the end wall panels are not connected to the bottom panel, the bottom or end panels having flaps 14, Fig. 4 (not shown), which are foldable over the end or bottom panels to cover any gap which may exist. The straps 9 are releasably secured at their ends by foldable extensions 19, on the flaps 18 which are turned back under the inturned flaps 18 to grip extensions 11 on the straps 9, tips 21 on the extensions engaging in end panel slots 22. Prior to collapse, the straps 9 and flaps 18 are unfolded. Handholes 25 and vent holes 12 are provided. In Figs. 5 and 6, the end wall panels are attached to the sidewall and bottom panels by glued or stapled flaps 105 and 106, and two pairs of fold lines 108 are formed in the bottom panel and diverge from a central fold line 107 to bisect each corner to form delta-shaped gussets 109. The arrangement is such that the gussets fold inwardly with the end wall panels and the bottom panel folds outwardly on collapse of the box, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). Apertures 115 and 116 are provided to relieve strains in the gusset on collapsing. Stacking straps 110 along the tops of the side panels are secured by end tabs 111 to overlie the otherwise open top of the box. Folds 112 in these flaps permit their folding up on collapse of the box.
