Abstract

La invención se refiere a un procedimiento para la elaboración simultánea de 1,2- y 1,3-propandiol a partir de glicerina. El 1,2-propandiol usualmente se elabora a partir del óxido de propileno, el 1,3-propandiol por hidratación de la acroleína e hidrogenación subsiguiente. El procedimiento de acuerdo al invento abarca las etapas de reacción: (a) deshidratación de la glicerina por conducción de una mezcla glicerina-agua gaseosa con 10 hasta 40 por peso de glicerina a 250 hasta 340°C sobre un catalizador de sustancias sólidas con un valor H0 (función ácida de Hemmett) menor de 2, de preferencia entre -3 y -8,2, (b) hidratación de la acroleína contenida en la mezcla de reacción de la etapa (a) y (c) hidrogenación catalítica del 3-hidroxipropionaldehido y de la hidroacetona contenidas en la mezcla de reacción de la etapa (b). A partir de la glicerina pueden obtenerse en un procedimiento simple y simultáneo dos sustancias valiosas, el 1,2- y 1,3- propandiol, con elevado rendimiento total.
