Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un método para la preparación de p-xileno renovable y de pureza relativamente elevada a partir de biomasa. Por ejemplo, la biomasa tratada para proporcionar una materia prima por fermentación es fermentada con un microorganismo capaz de producir un alcohol C4 como isobutanol, luego se deshidrata secuencialmente el isobutanol en presencia de un catalizador de deshidratación para proporcionar un alqueno C4 como isobutileno, se dimeriza el alqueno C4 para formar uno o más alquenos C8 como 2,4,4-trimetilpentenos o 2,5 dimetilhexeno, luego se deshidrociclan los alquenos C8 en presencia de un catalizador de deshidrociclación para formar selectivamente p-xileno renovable con rendimiento global elevado. El p-xileno puede entonces ser oxidado para formar ácido tereftálico o ésteres de tereftalato.
