에 의해 구해지는 값으로 정의했을 때에, 1.5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 10을 만족하는 리튬 복합산화물을 활성물질로서 사용한다.
Description
최근의 전자분야는 놀랍게 발전하고 있으며, 비디오 카메라, 액정카메라, 휴대전화, 랩톱 컴퓨터, 워드프로세서 등의 각종 기기가 개발되고 있다. 그것에 대응하여, 이들 전자기기의 전원에 사용되는 전지에서는, 소형화, 경량화, 고에너지 밀도화에 대한 요구가 높아지고 있다.
종래, 이들 전자기기에는 납전지나 니켈 카드뮴 전지가 사용되고 있었지만, 이들 전지는 소형화, 경량화, 고에너지 밀도화의 요구에 대해 충분히 부응할 수 없다.
그래서 비수성 용매에 리튬염을 용해시킨 비수성 전해액을 사용하는 비수성 전해액 전지가 제안되어 있다. 이 비수성 전해액 전지에서는, 리튬이나 리튬합금 또는 리튬이온을 도프, 탈도프(undoped)하는 것이 가능한 탄소재료를 음극재료로서 사용하고, 리튬 코발트 복합산화물을 양극재료로서 사용한 것이 이미 실용화되어 있다.
이 종류의 비수성 전해액 전지는 작동전압이 3∼4V로 높기 때문에, 고에너지 밀도화가 가능하고, 자기방전도 적으며, 사이클 특성도 우수하다는 이점을 갖고 있다.
또한 이 비수성 전해액 전지에서는, 나아가 소형화, 경량화, 고에너지 밀도화를 실현하기 위해, 활성물질 등의 연구개발이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 양극 활성물질로서는, 리튬 니켈 복합산화물이나 리튬 니켈 코발트 복합산화물 같은 Ni을 함유하는 리튬 복합산화물도 제안되어 있다.
발명의 개시
발명의 목적
그러나 본 발명자 등이 리튬 복합산화물의 특성을 검토한 바, 입자의 입도분포와 BET 비표면적에 의해 리튬 복합산화물을 전극으로서 사용한 전지의 고율 특성이나 사이클 특성에 차이가 있는 것이 알았다. 노트북 컴퓨터에 리튬이온 이차전지가 잘 사용되고 있지만, 개인용 컴퓨터의 하드디스크에서는 순간적이지만 대전류를 필요로 하는 곳이 있어, 이 점에서 고율 특성이 우수한 전지가 요구되고 있다.
그래서 본 발명의 목적은 상기 종래 기술의 문제점을 해결하고, 전지에 고용량을 부여할 수 있는 동시에 고율 특성이 우수한 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극을 제공하는 데 있다.
발명의 개요
본 발명자 등은 예의 연구한 결과, 특정한 BET법에 의한 비표면적을 갖는 리튬 복합산화물을 전극 활성물질로서 사용함으로써, 상기 과제를 해결할 수 있다는 것을 발견하여, 본 발명을 완성하였다.
즉, 본 발명은 활성물질로서 리튬 복합산화물을 포함하는 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극으로서, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 BET법에 의한 비표면적을 Sa, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 입경을 r, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 입도분포를 f(r), 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 밀도를 d로 하여, Sc를 하기 식(I):
에 의해 구해지는 값으로 정의했을 때에, 상기 리튬 복합산화물은
1.5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 10
을 만족하는 것인 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극이다.
본 발명에서, 리튬 복합산화물이 2 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 8를 만족하는 것인 것이 바람직하다.
본 발명에서, 리튬 복합산화물이 LixNiyMzO2(여기서, x는 0.8 < x < 1.5, y+z는 0.8 < y+z < 1.2, z는 0 ≤ z < 0.35이다. M은 Co, Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Mn 및 Fe로부터 선택되는 적어도 1종의 원소를 나타낸다.)인 것이 바람직하다.
본 발명의 전극에 의하면, 특정한 BET법에 의한 비표면적 Sa(즉, 1.5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 10)를 갖는 리튬 복합산화물을 전극 활성물질로서 사용하기 때문에, 전지에 고용량을 부여할 수 있는 동시에 고율 특성, 사이클 특성이 우수한 전지를 얻을 수 있다.
본 발명은 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극에 관한 것으로, 보다 자세하게는 리튬 복합산화물이 활성물질로서 사용되고, 전지에 고용량을 부여할 수 있는 동시에 고율 특성(high-rate characteristic)이 우수한 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극에 관한 것이다.
도1은 실시예 1에서 사용한 리튬 복합산화물의 입도분포의 측정 결과의 그래프이다. 입경 r(×10-6m) 대 빈도 f(r)를 나타낸다.

본 발명에서 활성물질로서, 리튬 복합산화물을 사용한다. 리튬 복합산화물로서는, 예컨대 LixCoO2(0 < x ≤ 1.0), 리튬 LixNiO2(0 < x ≤ 1.0), Li1+xMn2-xO4(0 ≤ x ≤ 1/3), Li(M, Mn)2O4(M = Cr, Co, Al, B) 등을 들 수 있다.
본 발명에서는, 리튬 복합산화물이 LixNiyMzO2(여기서, x는 0.8 < x < 1.5, y+z는 0.8 < y+z < 1.2, z는 0 ≤ z < 0.35이다. M은 Co, Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Mn 및 Fe로부터 선택되는 적어도 1종의 원소를 나타낸다.)인 것이 고용량, 저가인 점에서 특히 바람직하다. 이 경우에, 금속 M은 Co가 보다 바람직하고, 2종류 이상의 금속이라도 좋다.
이러한 리튬 복합산화물의 제조방법으로서는, 예컨대 LiMetal3+O2(여기서, Metal은 Ni을 주체로 하고, Co, Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Mn 및 Fe로부터 선택되는 적어도 1종의 원소를 포함한다.) 소성시에 휘산하는 음이온을 각각 포함하는 알칼리성 수용성 리튬 화합물과 염기성 금속염을 물 매체 중에서 반응시켜 슬러리를 얻고, 얻어진 슬러리를 건조한 후, 소성하는 방법을 예시할 수 있다.
염기성 금속염은 Metal2+(OH)2-nk(An-)k·mH2O로 표시되는 것이다. 여기서, Metal2+로는, Ni을 주체로 하고, 경우에 따라 Co, Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Mn 및 Fe로부터 선택되는 적어도 1종의 원소를 포함한다. An-는 질산이온, 염소이온, 브롬이온, 초산이온, 탄산이온 등의 n가(n= 1∼3)의 음이온을 나타낸다. 또한 k는 0.03 ≤ k ≤ 0.3, M은 0 ≤ m < 2이다.
이 식으로 표시되는 염기성 금속염은 Metal2+의 수용액에, Metal2+에 대하여, 약 0.7∼0.95당량, 바람직하게는 약 0.8∼0.95당량의 알칼리를 약 80℃ 이하의 반응조건하에서 가하여 반응시킨 후, 40℃∼70℃에서 0.1∼10시간 숙성하고, 물 세척에 의해 부생성물을 제거함으로써 제조할 수 있다. 여기서 사용하는 알칼리로서는, 수산화나트륨 등의 수산화 알칼리금속, 수산화칼슘 등의 수산화 알칼리토금속, 아민류 등을 들 수 있다.
이 식으로 나타내는 화합물로부터 선택되는 염기성 금속염과, 수산화리튬, 탄산리튬 또는 이들의 수화물 등으로부터 선택되는 1종 또는 복수의 리튬 화합물을 수중에서 반응액의 농도로서는 5∼25중량%의 범위이고, 또한 반응온도는 상온∼100℃의 범위에서 반응을 하여 슬러리를 얻는다. 그리고 조성물 형상의 균일성을 향상시키기 위해서 분무건조를 한다.
이 건조물을 공기나 산소 또는 오존 등을 포함하는 산화력을 가진 가스 분위기하, 약 700∼1000℃의 온도영역에서 약 0.1∼20시간 가열처리하여 소성함으로써, 리튬 복합산화물을 얻을 수 있다.
본 발명에 사용되는 리튬 복합산화물의 별도의 제조방법으로서, 수용성 금속화합물로부터 얻어지는 염기성 탄산금속과 수용성 리튬화합물을 사용하는 방법을 예시할 수 있다.
여기서 사용되는 수용성 금속화합물은 질산염, 황산염, 금속염화물 등이며, 이 수용성 금속화합물은 니켈화합물을 주체로 하고, Co, Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Mn 및 Fe로부터 선택되는 적어도 1종의 원소가 배합할 수 있도록 소정량의 별도의 수용성 금속화합물을 더 혼합한 것이어도 좋다.
염기성 탄산금속은 상기 수용성 금속화합물의 혼합물과, 탄산알칼리, 중탄산 알칼리, 탄산암모늄 및 중탄산암모늄으로 이루어지는 군으로부터 선택되는 화합물을 수중에서 반응시켜 얻어지는 침전물이나, 또한 이 반응계에 수산화나트륨을 존재시켜 반응하여 얻어지는 침전물을 여과, 건조함으로써 얻어진다. 이 경우에, 양호한 침전을 생성시키기 위해서는, 탄산계 화합물이 약간 과잉으로 되도록 사용하는 것이 좋고, 침전의 비표면적을 제어하기 위해서 교반조건을 제어하는 것도 중요하다.
이렇게 하여 얻어진 염기성 탄산금속에, 탄산리튬, 수산화리튬 등의 수용성 리튬화합물의 분말을, 상기 금속과 Li의 소망하는 비율로 혼합한다. 이 혼합물을 분말 그대로, 먼저 불활성가스 또는 산소 함유 가스의 존재하에서, 300∼500℃로 가열한다. 이 가열에 의해, 염기성 탄산금속의 분해만이 진행하고, 결정구조 중의 탄산가스가 이탈한다. 이 가열을 탄산가스의 발생이 실질적으로 종료할 때까지 계속하여, 염기성 탄산금속의 전부를 다수의 미세한 구멍을 갖는 산화금속으로 변환한다.
탄산가스의 발생이 실질적으로 종료한 후, 더 승온하면, 용융한 수용성 리튬화합물이 산화금속의 미세구멍 중에 침입하여, 양자가 매우 밀접한 접촉상태로 된다. 여기서 산소가스 또는 산소가 풍부한 공기의 존재하에서 700∼900℃의 온도로 소성하면, Ni은 2가에서 3가로 되어, Li 복합산화물이 생성한다.
여기서 사용하는 염기성 탄산금속은 비표면적이 큰(예컨대, 100m2/g 이상) 것일수록, 가스방출과 예비소성 후의 미세구멍 생성이 효율화되기 때문에 바람직하다.
이렇게 하여 얻어진 리튬 복합산화물은 건조시켜 수분량을 감소시켜 사용하든가, 제조 직후로부터 건조상태를 유지해 두는 것이 바람직하다. 이러한 조작에 의해, 활성물질에 수분이 많이 포함되어 있는 것에 의한 전지용량의 저하, 임피던스의 증대, 보존성의 열화가 회피되어, 고에너지 밀도를 갖는 전지가 실현된다.
본 발명에 사용되는 리튬 복합산화물은 상술한 것 중에, 다음에 나타내는 것 같은 특정한 BET법에 의한 비표면적을 갖고 있을 필요가 있다. 즉, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 BET법에 의한 비표면적을 Sa, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 입경을 r, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 입도분포를 f(r), 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 밀도를 d로 하여, Sc를 하기 식(I):
에 의해 구해진 값으로 정의했을 때에, Sa와 Sc의 비(Sa/Sc)가,
1.5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 10
을 만족할 필요가 있다.
여기서 입도분포 f(r)는, 레이저 회절·산란법에 의해 측정되는 것이고, 예컨대 마이크로트랙(microtrack) 입도분석계(니키소사 제)를 사용하여 측정할 수 있다.

을 실측에 의해 구하기 위해서는 상기 식을 사용한다. 단, 적어도 R1보다 입경이 작은 것과, Rx보다 입경이 큰 것은 이 활성물질에는 포함되어 있지 않는 것이 조건이며,
으로 된다. 또한 계산에서는, 각 수치의 단위를 갖추는 것이 필요하고, BET법 비표면적 Sa(m2/g), 입경 r(m), 밀도 d(g/m3)로 한다.
완전한 구형입자의 비표면적 S는 S = 6/(d·r)이며, 상기 식(I)에 의해 정해지는 Sc는 완전구로부터 발전시킨 리튬 복합산화물의 상태량이다. 즉, Sc는 여러 가지 입경의 완전 구상의 가상 리튬 복합산화물입자의 집합체의 비표면적이라고 생각된다.
따라서 Sa와 Sc의 비(Sa/Sc)는 리튬 복합산화물입자의 완전 구상으로부터 어긋나, 표면상태의 매끈함, 내부에 있는 미세구멍의 상대적인 정도를 나타내는 척도라고 생각된다. 전지의 특성은 활성물질과 전해액의 접촉, 활성물질과 도전제의 접촉에 영향을 받는다. 활성물질과 전해액의 접촉은 리튬이온과 활성물질의 반응하기 쉬운 것과 관계가 있으며, 활성물질과 도전제의 접촉은 전자의 흐름과 관계있다.
이 비(Sa/Sc)가 1.5 미만이면 고율 특성이 악화하는 불량이 생기고, 또한 1.5 미만인 리튬 복합산화물입자를 얻는 것은 일반적으로 곤란하고, 현실적이지 않다. 한편, 이 비가 10보다 크면, 고율 특성이 악화하거나, 사이클 특성이 악화할 가능성이 있다. 이 비(Sa/Sc)가, 2 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 8인 것이 바람직하고, 5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 8인 것이 보다 바람직하다.
본 발명에서, 리튬 복합산화물은 상술한 비(Sa/Sc)를 만족하는 BET법비표면적 Sa를 갖는 것이면, 그 형상은 구형, 부정형 등 어느 것이어도 좋다.
리튬 복합산화물의 Sa/Sc의 제어는 다음과 같이 할 수 있다. 예컨대, Sa에 관해서는, 리튬 복합산화물의 소성온도를 높게 하면, 표면의 요철이 적어져 표면적이 작게 되기 때문에 Sa가 작은 것이 얻어진다. 한편, 소성온도를 낮게 하면, 반대 경향으로 되기 때문에, Sa가 큰 것이 얻어진다. 또한 1차입자의 크기와 2차입자의 크기(1차입자의 모임 쪽)을 조정함으로써도, Sa/Sc의 제어가 가능하다.
본 발명의 전극은 상술한 특정 리튬 복합산화물, 도전제 및 결합제를 유기용제와 혼련하여 혼합 도료를 조제하고, 이 혼합 도료를 집전체(collector) 상에 도포·건조함으로써, 제조할 수 있다.
본 발명에서 사용되는 도전제는 특히 한정되는 것은 아니며, 화학변화를 일으키지 않는 전자전도재료이면 무엇이어도 좋다. 도전제로서는, 통상 천연흑연(비늘상 흑연, 비늘조각상 흑연 등), 인조흑연 등의 흑연류, 아세틸렌블랙, 켓첸블랙(ketjen black), 채널블랙(channel black), 퍼니스블랙(furnace black), 써멀블랙(thermal black) 등의 카본블랙류, 탄소섬유, 기상성장 탄소섬유, 금속섬유 등의 도전성 섬유류, 구리, 니켈, 알루미늄, 은 등의 금속분말 등을 들 수 있다. 이들 중에서도, 비늘조각상 흑연이 바람직하다.
도전제로서, 구체적으로는 츄에쯔 그래파이트 워크스사 제의 LF 시리즈, 쇼와 덴꼬사 제의 UFG 시리즈, 론자사 제의 KS 시리즈, 간사이 네쯔가가꾸사 제의 MICROCARBO-G 시리즈, 에코스 기껜사 제의 에코스카본, 덴키 가가꾸 고교사 제의 덴카 블랙 등을 들 수 있다.
도전제의 배합량은 활성물질의 비표면적 등에 따라 다르지만, 건조도막 중의 1∼15중량%가 바람직하고, 2∼10중량%가 보다 바람직하다.
본 발명에서 결합제로서는, 열가소성 수지 또는 고무탄성을 갖는 중합체를, 1종 또는 2종 이상을 혼합하여 사용할 수 있다. 결합제의 예로서는, 불소계 중합체, 폴리비닐알코올, 카르복시메틸셀룰로오스, 히드록시프로필셀룰로오스, 재생 셀룰로오스 아세틸셀룰로오스, 폴리비닐클로라이드, 폴리비닐피롤리돈, 폴리에틸렌, 폴리프로필렌, EPDM, 술폰화 EPDM, SBR, 폴리부타디엔, 폴리에틸렌 옥사이드 등을 들 수 있다.
이들 중에서도 불소계 함유 중합체는 불소원자/탄소원자의 원자비가 0.75 이상 1.5 이하인 것이 바람직하고, 0.75 이상 1.3 이하인 것이 더욱 바람직하다. 이 값이 1.5보다 큰 경우, 전지의 용량이 충분하게는 얻어지기 어렵고, 한편 0.75미만인 경우, 전해액에 결합제가 용해하는 경향이 있다.
이러한 불소계 함유 중합체로서는, 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리불화비닐리덴, 불화비닐리덴-삼불화에틸렌 공중합체, 에틸렌-테트라플루오로에틸렌 공중합체, 프로필렌-테트라플루오로에틸렌 공중합체 등을 들 수 있다. 또한 주쇄의 수소를 알킬기로 치환한 불소계 함유 중합체도 사용할 수 있다.
이들 중에서도 선택 용해성을 나타내는(전해액에 대한 용해성이 낮고, 용해가능한 용매가 있다) 것이 바람직하다. 예컨대 불화비닐리덴계 중합체의 경우, 전해액에 사용되는 카르보네이트계의 용매 등에는 용해하기 어렵지만, N,N-디메틸포름아미드, N-메틸피롤리돈 등의 용제에는 용해가능하다.
이러한 결합제의 배합량은 활성물질이나 도전제의 비표면적, 입도분포, 목적으로 하는 전극의 강도 등에 따라 다르지만, 건조도막 중의 1∼15중량%가 바람직하고, 2∼10중량%가 보다 바람직하다.
또한 전극 활성물질 혼합 도료용의 용제로서는, 특히 한정되는 것은 없고, 일반적인 유기용제를 사용할 수 있다. 유기용제로서, 구체적으로는 헥산 등의 포화 탄화수소류, 톨루엔, 크실렌 등의 방향족 탄화수소류, 메탄올, 에탄올, 프로판올, 부탄올 등의 알코올류, 아세톤, 메틸에틸 케톤, 메틸이소부틸 케톤, 디이소부틸 케톤, 시클로헥사논 등의 케톤류, 초산에틸, 초산부틸 등의 에스테르류, 테트라히드로푸란, 디옥산, 디에틸에테르 등의 에테르류, N,N-디메틸포름아미드, N-메틸피롤리돈, N,N-디메틸아세트아미드 등의 아미드류, 에틸렌클로라이드, 클로로벤젠 등의 할로겐화 탄화수소 등을 들 수 있다. 이들 중에서도, 케톤계 및 아미드계의 용제가 불소계 함유 중합체를 용해할 수 있기 때문에 바람직하다. 이들 용제는 단독이어도 2종 이상의 혼합한 것이라도 사용할 수 있다.
조제된 혼합 도료를 집전체 상에 도포하고 건조한다. 집전체는 특히 한정되는 것은 아니며, 전지화했을 때에 화학변화하지 않는 전자전도체이면 무엇이어도 좋다. 예컨대, 알루미늄, 알루미늄합금, 니켈, 스테인레스, 티탄 등이 사용된다. 이들 이외에, 알루미늄이나 스테인레스의 표면이 카본, 니켈, 티탄으로 처리된 것도 사용된다. 특히 알루미늄 또는 알루미늄합금이 바람직하다. 집전체의 형상으로서는, 박 외에 필름, 네트, 다공질체, 발포체 등이 사용된다. 두께는 1∼100㎛의 것이 사용되고, 특히 1∼50㎛가 바람직하다.
집전체 상에 전극 활성물질 혼합 도료를 도포하는 것은 리버스 롤법, 다이렉트 롤법, 블레이드법, 나이프법, 압출노즐(extrusion nozzle)법, 커튼법, 그라비아 롤법, 바 코트법, 딥법, 키스 코트법, 스퀴즈법 등이 일반적으로 잘 알려진 도포법에 의해 할 수 있다. 그 중에서도 압출노즐법이 바람직하고, 5∼100m/분의 속도로 도포되도록 혼합물의 용제조성, 건조조건을 선정함으로써, 양호한 도포층의 표면상태를 얻을 수 있다.
건조온도는 30∼150℃가 바람직하고, 50∼140℃가 더욱 바람직하다. 30℃ 미만에서는,용제의 건조가 불충분하게 되고, 150℃를 넘으면 용제의 증발속도가 지나치게 급격하기 때문에 전극의 표층에 결합제가 편재하는 것으로 되어, 전극특성이 열화하는 경우가 있다.
또한 도포층의 두께, 길이나 폭은, 최종적인 전지의 크기에 의해 결정된다. 도포층의 두께는 도포 후에, 일반적으로 채용되는 압착가공에 의해 조정하는 것이 바람직하다. 그 가공압은 0.2∼10t/cm, 가공온도는 10∼150℃가 바람직하다.
이하, 실시예를 들어 본 발명을 더욱 구체적으로 설명하지만, 본 발명은 이들 실시예에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
[실시예 1]
질산니켈 및 질산코발트를 Ni/Co(몰비) = 0.8/0.2가 되도록 수용액 중에서 혼합하고, 침전을 형성시키며, 그 후 분무건조기(spray dryer)로 건조하여, 거의 구상인 입자를 얻었다. 이 입자와 수산화리튬을 Li/Ni/Co(몰비)= 1/0.8/0.2로 혼합하여 소성하여 LiNi0.8Co0.2O2를 얻었다. 이것을 분급하여 선택된 입자의 입도분포를 마이크로트랙 입도분석계(니키소사 제)를 사용하여 측정한 바, 평균입경은 10×10-6m이었다. BET법에 의한 비표면적은 0.3m2/g, 밀도는 5.0×106g/m3이며, 입도분포의 측정결과로부터, Sa/Sc는 2.5이었다.
입도분포의 측정결과를 표1과 도1에 나타낸다. 도1은 표1의 결과를 그래프화한 것이고, 입경 r(×10-6m) 대 빈도 f(r)를 나타낸다.
표1
이 리튬 복합산화물을 활성물질로서 사용하여, 이하의 배합조성의 전극용 혼합 도료를 제조하였다.
(배합조성)
양극 활성물질: 상기의 리튬 복합산화물 93중량부
도전재: 론자사 제의 Graphite KS25 4중량부
결합제: 엘프-아토켐 저팬사 제의 KYNAR 741 3중량부
폴리불화비닐리덴(PVDF)
용제: N-메틸-2-피롤리돈(NMP) 67중량부
PVDF 3중량부를 NMP 27중량부에 용해하고, 결합제 용액 30중량부를 제조하였다. 활성물질 93중량부와 도전재 4중량부를 하이퍼 혼합기(hypermixer)에서 건식혼합하고, 이 혼합물을 가압혼련기에 투입하였다. 이 혼합물에 상기 결합제 용액 13중량부를 가하고, 가압혼련기의 자켓을 수냉하면서, 30분간 혼련하였다. 이 혼련물을 꺼내 결합제 용액 17중량부와 NMP 40중량부를 가하고, 하이퍼 혼합기로써 용해하여 활성물질 혼합 도료를 얻었다.
조제된 혼합 도료를 블레이드 피복기로써 20㎛ 두께의 알루미늄박으로 되는 집전체의 한 면에 도포·건조한 후, 롤러 압착기로써 압축성형하고, 소정의 크기로 절단하여 혼합층두께 65㎛의 실시예 1의 전극을 얻었다.
[실시예 2]
(활성물질의 제조)
실시예 1과 소성까지는 동일하게 하고, LiNi0.8Co0.2O2를 얻었다. 이것을 분급하여 선택된 입자의 입도분포를 마이크로트랙 입도분석계를 사용하여 측정한 바, 평균입경은 22×10-6m이었다.
BET법에 의한 비표면적은 0.24m2/g, 밀도는 5.0×106g/m3이며, 입도분포의 측정결과로부터 Sa/Sc는 4.4이었다.
(전극용 혼합 도료 및 전극의 제조)
이 리튬 복합산화물을 활성물질로서 사용한 이외는, 실시예 1과 같이 전극용 혼합 도료를 제조하여 혼합층 두께 65㎛의 실시예 2의 전극을 얻었다.
[실시예 3]
(활성물질의 제조)
실시예 1과 소성 전까지는 동일하게 조작하고, 소성온도를 실시예 1보다 낮게 하여 소성하고, LiNi0.8Co0.2O2를 얻었다. 이것을 분급하여 선택된 입자의 입도분포를 마이크로트랙 입도분석계를 사용하여 측정한 바, 평균입경은 15×10-6m이었다. BET법에 의한 비표면적은 0.58m2/g, 밀도는 5.0×106g/m3이며, 입도분포의 측정 결과로부터 Sa/Sc는 7.1이었다.
(전극용 혼합 도료 및 전극의 제조)
이 리튬 복합산화물을 활성물질로서 사용한 이외는, 실시예 1과 같이 전극용 혼합 도료를 제조하여 혼합층 두께 65㎛의 실시예 3의 전극을 얻었다.
[비교예 1]
(활성물질의 제조)
실시예 3과 소성까지는 동일하게 하고, LiNi0.8Co0.2O2를 얻었다. 이것을 분급하여 선택된 입자의 입도분포를 마이크로트랙 입도분석계를 사용하여 측정한 바, 평균입경은 30×10-6m이었다. BET법에 의한 비표면적은 0.46m2/g, 밀도는 5.0×106g/m3이며, 입도분포의 측정결과로부터, Sa/Sc는 11이었다.
(전극용 혼합 도료 및 전극의 제조)
이 리튬 복합산화물을 활성물질로서 사용한 이외는, 실시예 1과 같이 전극용 혼합 도료를 제조하여 혼합층 두께 65㎛의 비교예 1의 전극을 얻었다.
[비교예 2]
(활성물질의 제조)
실시예 3과 소성 전까지는 동일하게 조작하여, 소성온도를 실시예 3보다 낮춰 소성하고, LiNi0.8Co0.2O2를 얻었다. 이것을 분급하여 선택된 입자의 입도분포를 마이크로트랙 입도분석계를 사용하여 측정한 바, 평균입경은 17×10-6m이었다. BET법에 의한 비표면적은 0.91m2/g, 밀도는 5.0×106g/m3이며, 입도분포의 측정 결과로부터, Sa/Sc는 10.8이었다.
(전극용 혼합 도료 및 전극의 제조)
이 리튬 복합산화물을 활성물질로서 사용한 이외는, 실시예 1과 같이 전극용 혼합 도료를 제조하여 혼합층 두께 65㎛의 비교예 2의 전극을 얻었다.
(전지 특성)
실시예 1∼3 및 비교예 1∼2에서 얻어진 각 전극의 전지 특성을 다음과 같이 측정하였다.
얻어진 각 전극에 관해서, 양극 활성물질층을 잔류수분의 제거를 위해 건조하고, 직경 15.5mm의 원형의 양극을 제조하였다. 별도로, 음극으로서, 두께 1.85mm의 금속리튬을 직경 15.5mm로 뚫었다. 그리고 에틸렌 카르보네이트와 디메틸 카르보네이트의 1:1(용량비) 혼합액에 LiPF6을 1몰/리터되는 농도로 용해한 비수성 전해액을 준비하였다.
이 비수성 전해액, 양극 및 음극과, 또한 폴리프로필렌제의 박막분리기, 음극컵, 양극관, 가스켓을 사용하여, 도2에 나타내는 바와 같은 직경 20mm×두께 2.5mm의 코인형 전지를 제조하였다. 도2에서, 이 코인형 전지는 양극관(6) 내에 수용된 양극(4)과 음극컵(1) 내에 수용된 음극(2)이 분리기(3)를 사이에 두고 적층되고, 양극관(6)과 음극컵(1)이 가스켓(5)을 사이에 두고 죄어져, 밀폐되어 되는 것이다. 또한 집전체의 도시는 생략되어 있다. 이렇게 하여 제조된 전지에 관해서, 전지전압 4.2V, 충전전류 1mA에서 충전을 하고, 그 후 전지전압 4.2V이고, 충전시간 20시간인 조건에서 충전을 하고, 방전전류 1mA, 전지전압 3.0V인 조건에서 방전을 하여, 충방전 용량을 구하였다. 또한 방전전류를 10mA로 하여 초기용량에 대한 비율을 고율 특성으로서 측정하였다. 그 결과를 표2에 나타낸다.

실시예 1∼3의 전극을 사용한 전지에서는, 방전용량이 높고, 10회째의 방전용량도 높으며, 사이클 특성이 우수한다. 또한 고율 특성도 높다. 비교예 1에서는, 고율 특성이 떨어진다. 비교예 2에서는, 사이클 특성이 떨어진다.
본 발명은 그 정신 또는 주요 특징으로부터 벗어나지 않고, 다른 여러 가지의 형태로 실시할 수 있다. 그 때문에, 상술한 실시예는 모든 점에서 단순한 예시에 불과하고, 한정적으로 해석해서는 안 된다. 또한 청구범위의 균등범위에 속하는 변경은 전부 본 발명의 범위 내의 것이다.
이상과 같이, 본 발명의 전극에 의하면, 특정한 BET법에 의한 비표면적 Sa(즉, 1.5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 10)을 갖는 리튬 복합산화물을 전극 활성물질로서 사용하기 때문에, 전지에 고용량을 부여할 수 있는 동시에 고율 특성, 사이클 특성이 우수한 전지를 얻을 수 있다.
본 발명은 비수성 전해질 전지의 고용량 특성의 향상에 공헌한다.
Claims (3)
- 활성물질로서 리튬 복합산화물을 포함하는 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극으로서, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 BET법에 의한 비표면적을 Sa, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 입경을 r, 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 입도분포를 f(r), 상기 리튬 복합산화물의 밀도를 d로 하여, Sc를 하기 식(I):에 의해 구해지는 값으로 정의했을 때에, 상기 리튬 복합산화물은1.5 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 10를 만족하는 것인 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극.
- 제1항에 있어서, 리튬 복합산화물이 2 ≤ Sa/Sc ≤ 8을 만족하는 것인 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극.
- 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서, 리튬 복합산화물이 LixNiyMzO2(여기서, x는 0.8 < x < 1.5, y+z는 0.8 < y+z < 1.2, z는 0 ≤ z < 0.35이다. M은 Co, Mg, Ca, Sr, Al, Mn 및 Fe로부터 선택되는 적어도 1종의 원소를 나타낸다.)인 비수성 전해질 전지용 전극.
