미디어 가이드를 생성하는데 있어서, 단지 표시자들 및/또는 콘텐츠에 대한 또는 콘텐츠를 참조하는 정보의 제한된 세트가 이용되고, 가이드를 제작하는데 실제 콘텐츠가 전부 이용되지 않음이 또한 이해되어야 한다. 콘텐츠와 관련되는 정보는: 자신의 제목, 생성 시간, 장르, 생성자, 정적 또는 애니메이팅된 섬네일(thumbnail)들, 및 선택적으로 자체의 원래의 포맷으로 제공되거나 상이한 포맷으로 변환된 콘텐츠의 서브세트를 포함할 수 있으나 이로 제한되지 않는다.
가이드 생성
이용자는 콘텐츠를 제공하고 이후에 가이드를 생성하는데 이용되는 데이터베이스에 상기 콘텐츠에 대한 액세스 표시자들을 추가하는 임의의 사이트를 개별적으로 트래버싱(traversing)할 수 있다. 다수의 실시예들에서, 이용자는 플러그-인을 포함하는 브라우저 애플리케이션을 이용하거나, 웹페이지 내에 임베딩되는 미디어를 식별하고, 미디어의 태깅/언태깅을 인에이블하는 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하고, 웹 페이지로부터 미디어와 관련된 정보를 추출하는 기능을 제공하는 자바스크립트를 통해, 사이트들에 액세스한다. 개별 콘텐츠를 웹 포탈에 표시할 때, 콘텐츠 소비 또는 다운로드를 위해 관련된 정보를 제공하는 페이지가 동적으로 증강(augment)되어 인터페이스를 제공하고, 인터페이스는 이용자의 미디어 가이드로의 콘텐츠의 추가를 인에이블한다. 일단 추가되면, 웹 페이지는 콘텐츠가 이용자의 미디어 가이드에 추가되었음을 주목하도록 동적으로 증강될 수 있다. 동일한 웹 페이지를 재방문하면, 이용자에게는 이미 자신의 미디어 가이드에 추가되어 있었던 콘텐츠를 제거하는 것이 허용될 수 있다.

미디어 가이드의 생성은 이용자의 뷰잉 선호들에 대한 특정 정보 및 이들이 재생하고자 하는 콘텐츠의 유형들에 대한 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 콘텐츠에 대한 정보는 외부 서버와 공유될 수 있고 많은 상이한 방식들로 금전 가치화될 수 있다. 미디어 가이드에서 이용 가능한 추가 정보에 기초하여, 저작권 소유자와 계약이 되어있는 합법적인 소스들로부터 카테고리화된 콘텐츠 대 불법 소스로부터 전송되는 소스를 식별하는 것이 또한 가능하다. 이 식별은 광고, 직접 광고, 콘텐츠를 소비하기 위한 라이센스의 판매 또는 획득을 위한 제안(offer)들과 같은 금전 가치화 모델, 또는 미디어의 전송 자원의 합법성에 관한 정보를 이용할 수 있는 임의의 다른 금전 가치화 기술들을 유발할 수 있다.
미디어 가이드의 생성에 요구되는 소프트웨어 및 시스템의 일부 또는 모두는 그것이 제 3 자들에 의해 표준 개발 키트(standard development kit: SDK)로 인가(license)되거나 후속해서 자체의 특정 요건들에 기초하여 제 3 자 인가자(licensor)에 의해 커스터마이즈될 수 있는 방식으로 구현될 수 있다. 그와 같은 모델에서, 이용자의 뷰잉 선호들과 같은 금전 가치화에 이용될 수 있는 특정 정보 및 이용자가 미디어 가이드에서 이용 가능한 추가 정보와 함께 재생하고자 하는 콘텐츠의 유형들은 SDK의 인가된 자(licensee)에게 독점적으로 역 보고될 수 있거나, 제 3 자의 인가자 및 SDK의 인가된 자 사이에 상호 공유될 수 있다.
본 발명이 어떤 특정 양태들로 기술되었을지라도, 당업자에게는 많은 추가 수정들 및 변형들이 자명할 것이다. 그러므로 본 발명이 본 발명의 범위 및 정신을 벗어나지 않고도, 크기, 형상, 재료들의 다양한 변경들을 포함하여, 특정하게 기술되는 것과 다르게 실시될 수 있음이 이해되어야만 한다. 그러므로, 본 발명의 실시예들은 모든 점에서 예시로 고려되어야지 제한하는 것으로 고려되어서는 안 된다.

Claims (22)

  1. 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템(content guide system)에 있어서:
    서버들의 세트로서, 상기 서버들의 세트는,
    콘텐츠로의 액세스를 제공하고,
    상기 서버들의 세트 내 콘텐츠 서버에 저장된 콘텐츠를 참조하는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스를 제공하는, 상기 서버들의 세트와;
    상기 서버들의 세트와 네트워크 통신하는 태깅 디바이스(tagging device)로서, 상기 태깅 디바이스는,
    상기 콘텐츠 서버를 통해 콘텐츠에 액세스하도록 구성되고,
    액세스된 콘텐츠를 참조하는, 적어도 하나의 태그를 자동으로 생성하여 콘텐츠 추천을 공유하도록 구성되며, 생성된 태그들은 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스 내에 포함되기 위하여 상기 서버들의 세트에 제공되는, 상기 태깅 디바이스와;
    상기 서버들의 세트와 네트워크 통신하는 재생 디바이스로서, 상기 재생 디바이스는,
    콘텐츠 가이드를 형성하는 태그들의 데이터베이스를 탐색하고,
    태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스로부터, 상기 콘텐츠 서버를 통해 액세스가능한 콘텐츠를 참조하는 태그를 검색하고,
    적어도 하나의 태그를 포함하는 공유된 콘텐츠 추천을 수신하고,
    상기 콘텐츠 서버를 통해 태그에 의해 참조되는 콘텐츠에 액세스하도록 구성되는, 상기 재생 디바이스를 포함하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서, 각각의 태그는 상기 콘텐츠의 식별자 및 상기 콘텐츠의 위치 정보를 포함하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  3. 제 2 항에 있어서, 상기 식별자는 유일한 데이터베이스 식별자이고 상기 위치 정보는 일정한 자원 식별자와 연관되는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  4. 제 2 항에 있어서, 상기 식별자 및 상기 위치 정보는 크기에 있어서 상기 콘텐츠보다 실질적으로 더 작은, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 재생 디바이스는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스로부터 추가되거나 삭제되도록 상기 콘텐츠 서버에 저장되는 콘텐츠를 참조하는 태그를 요청하도록 구성되는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  6. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 네트워크 통신은 인터넷을 통하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  7. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 네트워크 통신은 구내 네트워크(local area network)를 통하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  8. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 서버들의 세트는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스를 제공하는 태그 서버를 포함하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  9. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 서버들의 세트는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스를 통하여 탐색하고 콘텐츠 추천들을 상기 재생 디바이스로 송신하도록 구성되는 추천 서버를 추가로 포함하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  10. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 콘텐츠 추천은 선택 기준에 기초하고 상기 재생 디바이스는 상기 선택 기준을 생성하도록 구성되는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  11. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 재생 디바이스는 상기 콘텐츠의 프리-캐시된(pre-cached)된 부분들을 수신하도록 구성되는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  12. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 콘텐츠 서버는 상기 콘텐츠의 프리-개시된 부분들을 획득하도록 구성되는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  13. 제 8 항에 있어서, 상기 태그 서버는 상기 콘텐츠를 포함하지 않는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  14. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 콘텐츠 서버는 상기 콘텐츠의 일부를 저장하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  15. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 태그들은 시간 성분을 포함하지 않는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  16. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 태그들은 상기 태그들과 관련되지 않은 데이터 및 상기 태그들이 참조하는 상기 콘텐츠를 갖는 데이터베이스 내의 데이터의 서브세트인, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  17. 제 16 항에 있어서, 상기 태그들은 상기 태그들을 데이터베이스 내의 특정 콘텐츠 가이드에 연관시키는 적어도 하나의 식별자를 포함하는, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  18. 제 17 항에 있어서, 데이터베이스는 크기에 있어서 상기 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스보다 더 큰, 콘텐츠 가이드 시스템.
  19. 네트워크 전체에 걸쳐 분배되는 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 방법에 있어서:
    태깅 디바이스를 이용하여 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 단계로서, 콘텐츠는 서버들의 세트의 콘텐츠 서버에서 액세스되는, 상기 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 단계와;
    태깅 디바이스를 이용하여 액세스된 콘텐츠를 참조하는 적어도 하나의 태그를 자동으로 생성하는 콘텐츠 추천을 공유하는 단계와;
    생성된 적어도 하나의 태그를 태깅 디바이스를 이용하여 상기 서버들의 세트에 제공하는 단계로서,
    상기 서버들의 세트는 콘텐츠 가이드를 형성하는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스를 제공하고,
    태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스의 태그들은 상기 콘텐츠 서버에 저장된 콘텐츠를 참조하고,
    상기 적어도 하나의 태그는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스에 포함되도록 제공되는, 상기 서버들의 세트에 제공하는 단계와;
    재생 디바이스를 이용하여 콘텐츠 가이드를 형성하는 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스를 탐색하는 단계와;
    재생 디바이스를 이용하여, 태그들의 탐색가능한 데이터베이스로부터 콘텐츠 서버를 통해 액세스가능한 콘텐츠를 참조하는 태그를 검색하는 단계와;
    재생 디바이스를 이용하여 적어도 하나의 태그를 포함하는 공유된 콘텐츠 추천을 수신하는 단계와;
    재생 디바이스를 이용하여 콘텐츠 서버를 통해 태그에 의해 참조된 콘텐츠를 액세스하는 단계를 포함하는, 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 방법.
  20. 제 19 항에 있어서, 각각의 태그는 상기 콘텐츠의 식별자 및 상기 콘텐츠의 위치 정보를 포함하는, 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 방법.
  21. 제 20 항에 있어서, 상기 식별자는 유일한 데이터베이스 식별자이고 상기 위치 정보는 일정한 자원 식별자와 연관되는, 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 방법.
  22. 제 20 항에 있어서, 상기 식별자 및 상기 위치 정보는 크기에 있어서 상기 콘텐츠보다 실질적으로 더 작은, 콘텐츠에 액세스하는 방법.
