Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
本発明はツーピースソリツドゴルフボールに改
良を加えたスリーピースソリツドゴルフボールに
関する。 糸巻きゴルフボールの耐久性を改良するために
開発されたツーピースソリツドゴルフボール、即
ち一体成形したソリツドコアを耐カツト性に優れ
たカバー（例えばエチレン共重合体に金属イオン
を結合させたアイオノマー樹脂を主材としたカバ
ー）で被覆して成るソリツドゴルフボールも十分
満足すべき反撥特性を示さない。反撥特性はボー
ルの初速度に大きな影響を及ぼし、飛距離を左右
する重要な要因でその改良が要請されている。 ツーピースソリツドゴルフボールの反撥特性を
さらに向上させるにはソリツドコアの反撥特性を
向上させるか、ボールの慣性モーメントを高める
方法等が考えられている。しかしながら、ソリツ
ドコアの反撥特性は共架橋剤によつてほとんど決
定されるため、これを向上させることは非常に困
難である。また、ボールの慣性モーメントを高め
るためにボール内部の硬度分布や重量分布を変化
させる試みもなされているが、耐久性が低下する
などの欠点を伴い、満足すべき結果は得られてい
ない。 本発明の目的はこのような状況に鑑み、ボール
の耐久性を損なうことなく反撥特性およびフイー
リングが向上したソリツドゴルフボールを提供す
ることである。 本発明の要旨は、第１図の模式的縦断面図に示
すように、内層１と外層２から成るツーピースソ
リツドコアをカバー３で被覆して成るスリーピー
スソリツドゴルフボールにおいて、内層の直径が
20〜32mm、比重が1.03〜1.25、中心の硬度（シヨ
アーＣ）が57以上83未満および中心から５〜10mm
の範囲の硬度（シヨアーＣ）が中心の硬度より大
きくかつ83以下であり、外層の直径が36〜40mm、
比重が1.30〜2.50、硬度（シヨアーＣ）が70〜83
であることを特徴とするスリーピースソリツドゴ
ルフボールに存する。 本発明によるスリーピースソリツドゴルフボー
ルのコアを構成する内層１と外層２の配合組成は
同一にするのが一般的であるが、所望により本発
明範囲内において適宜変えてもよい。 ソリツドコアの配合成分には基材ゴム、架橋
剤、共架橋剤、不活性充填剤等が含まれる。 基材ゴムとしては従来からソリツドゴルフボー
ルに用いられている適宜の天然ゴムおよび／また
は合成ゴムを使用することができるが、本発明に
おいては、シス構造を少なくとも40％以上有する
１，４−ポリブタジエンが特に好ましく、所望に
より該ポリブタジエンに天然ゴム、ポリイソプレ
ンゴム、スチレンブタジエンゴム等を適宜配合し
てもよい。 架橋剤としてはジクミルパーオキサイドやｔ−
ブチルパーオキサイドのような有機過酸化物およ
びアゾビスイソブチルニトリルのようなアゾ化合
物等が例示されるが、特に好ましいものはジクミ
ルパーオキサイドである。 架橋剤の配合量は基材ゴム100重量部に対して
通常0.5〜3.0重量部、好ましくは1.0〜2.5重量部
である。 共架橋剤としては特に限定するものではない
が、不飽和脂肪酸の金属塩、就中、炭素原子数３
〜８の不飽和脂肪酸（例えばアクリル酸、メタク
リル酸等）の亜鉛塩やマグネシウム塩が例示され
るが、アクリル酸亜鉛（正塩）が特に好適で、こ
の配合量は基材ゴム100重量部に対して30〜40重
量部である。 不活性充填剤としては酸化亜鉛、硫酸バリウ
ム、シリカ、炭酸カルシウムおよび炭酸亜鉛等が
例示されるが、酸化亜鉛が一般的で、その配合量
は内層と外層の比重、ボールの重量規格等に左右
され、特に限定的ではないが、通常は基材ゴム
100重量部に対して３〜150重量部である。 上記成分を配合して得られるコア内層用組成物
は常套の混練機、例えばバンバリーミキサーやロ
ール等を用いて混練し、コア内層用金型に圧縮ま
たは射出成形し、成形体を架橋剤および共架橋剤
が作用するのに十分な温度（例えば架橋剤として
ジクミルパーオキサイドを用い、共架橋剤として
アクリル酸亜鉛を用いた場合には約150〜170℃）
で加熱硬化して直径が20〜32mm、比重が1.03〜
1.25のソリツドコア内層を調製する。内層直径が
20mm以下であると反撥性向上の効果が認められ
ず、32mmを越えると反撥性は向上するものの耐久
性が低下する。コア内層の比重が1.03以下につい
ては配合上ほとんど不可能であり、1.25以上にな
ると外層比重が内層比重に接近または内層比重よ
り小さくなり本発明の効果が得られない。 この場合、ソリツドコア内層の硬度（シヨアー
Ｃ）分布が中心で57以上83未満、中心から５〜10
mmの範囲で中心硬度より大きくかつ83以下になる
ように加熱硬化条件（例えば昇温速度、加熱温
度、加熱時間等）を適宜調整することが重要であ
る。中心の硬度が57未満であるとボールが柔らか
くなりすぎ、反撥性および耐久性が悪くなる。83
以上であるとボールが硬くなりすぎ、打撃時の感
触が悪く実用に耐えない。中心から５〜10mmで硬
度が上記条件を外れると打撃時の感触が悪く実用
に適さない。 本発明によるソリツドゴルフボールのコアは上
記のようにして調製される内層上にさらに外層を
設けることによつて形成される。 即ち、前記成分を配合混練して得られるコア外
層用組成物をコア内層上に同中心的に金型内圧縮
または射出成形によつて設け、この２層成形体を
外層中に配合された架橋剤や共架橋剤が作用する
のに十分な温度で加熱硬化して直径が36〜40mmの
ツーピースソリツドコアとする。ソリツドコアの
直径が36mm以下であるとカバーが厚くなり反撥性
が低下する。40mm以上であるとカバー厚が薄くな
り耐久性が悪くなる。 コア外層の比重は1.30〜2.50、硬度（シヨアー
Ｃ）は70〜83、好ましくは72〜75にするのが一般
的である。比重が1.30より小さいと内層の比重に
近くなり、本発明の効果が得られにくい。2.50を
越えるとボールの重量が重くなり、規格を外れ
る。外層の硬度が70より小さいとボールが柔らか
くなりすぎ、反撥性および耐久性が悪くなり、83
を越えると反撥性の向上はみられるものの、脆く
なり耐久性が悪くなる。 以上のようにして得られるツーピースソリツド
コアは厚さ1.4〜2.7mmのカバーで被覆される。カ
バーとしてはアイオノマー樹脂を主材とし、必要
により着色等の目的で無機充填剤（例えば二酸化
チタン、酸化亜鉛等）を含有させたものが通常使
用される。 好ましいアイオノマー樹脂はモノオレフインと
炭素原子数３〜８の不飽和モノまたはジカルボン
酸およびそれらのエステルから成る群から選択さ
れる少なくとも１種との重合体（不飽和モノまた
はジカルボン酸および／またはこれらのエステル
４〜30重量％含有）に交差金属結合を付与した熱
可塑性樹脂である。このようなアイオノマー樹脂
としてはデユ・ポン社から市販されている各種の
「サーリン」（例えば、サーリン1601、1707、1605
等またはこれらの組合せ）が例示される。 カバーをソリツドコアに被覆する方法は特に限
定的ではないが、通常は予め半球殻状に成形した
２枚のカバーでソリツドコアを包み、加熱加圧成
形するが、カバー用組成物を射出成形してソリツ
ドコアを包みこんでもよい。 以上のようにして得られるスリーピースソリツ
ドゴルフボールは、コアの内層、外層の比重およ
び硬度分布の組合せにより、従来のツーピースソ
リツドゴルフボールに比べて同等の耐久性を保持
しつつ反撥特性およびフイーリングを改良したソ
リツドゴルフボールである。 以下、本発明を実施例によつて説明する。 実施例 １および２ 表−１の配合処方によるコア内層用組成物を混
練ロールを用いて混練し、160℃で20分間加圧成
形して直径28.0mmのソリツドコア内層を調製し
た。 この内層上に同中心的に、表−１の処方により
配合混練したコア外層用組成物を射出成形によつ
て設け、この２層成形体を165℃で25分間加熱処
理してツーピースソリツドコアを得た。 得られたツーピースソリツドコアを表−１の配
合処方によつて調製した２枚の半球殻状カバーで
包み、155℃で15分間加圧成形して直径41.3mmの
スリーピースソリツドゴルフボールを製造した。 製造されたボールの物性を表−１に示す。 実施例 ２ 実施例１の手順に準拠して製造されたスリーピ
ースソリツドゴルフボールの物性を表−１に示
す。 比較例 １ ソリツドコアを単層にする以外は実施例１の手
順に準拠して製造されたツーピースソリツドゴル
フボールの物性を表−１に示す。 比較例 ２および３ 表−１に示す配合で実施例１の手順に準拠して
スリーピースソリツドゴルフボールを得た。得ら
れたゴルフボールの物性を表−１に示す。この比
較例２および３は内層の比重が外層の比重より大
きく、反撥性が比重の程度に従つて低下する。

【表】 実施例 ３〜９ 表−２の配合処方によるコア内層用組成物を混
練ロールを用いて混練し、表−２の内核成型条件
で加圧成形してソリツドコア内層を調製した。 このコア内層上に同中心的に、表−２の処方に
より配合混練したコア外層用組成物を165℃で25
分間加圧成形してツーピースソリツドコアを得
た。 得られたツーピースソリツドコアを実施例１と
同様のアイオノマー樹脂100重量部に二酸化チタ
ン３重量部を配合た２枚の半球殻状カバーで包
み、155℃で15分間加圧成形して（カバーの硬度、
シヨアーD68）、直径41.3mmのスリーピースソリ
ツドゴルフボールを製造した。 製造されたボールの物性を表−２に示す。 比較例 ４〜８ 表−８に示す配合および条件でスリーピースソ
リツドゴルフボールを作成した。比較例５は中心
の硬度が57（シヨアーＣ）以下であり、比較例６
は外層硬度が70（シヨアーＣ）以下の例である。
また、比較例７は外層硬度が83（シヨアーＣ）以
上の場合、比較例８は内層中心の硬度が83以上か
つ中心より５〜10mmの範囲の硬度より高い場合を
示す。

【表】 以上述べたように、本発明によれば、コアの内
層、外層の比重および硬度分布を特定の組合せと
なる材質にしたので、従来のゴルフボールに比べ
て同等もしくはそれ以上の耐久性を保持しつつ、
しかも反撥特性およびフイーリングが改善された
スリーピースソリツドゴルフボールが得られた。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １ 内層と外層から成るツーピースソリツドコア
    をカバーで被覆して成るスリーピースソリツドゴ
    ルフボールにおいて、内層の直径が20〜32mm、比
    重が1.03〜1.25、中心の硬度（シヨアーＣ）が57
    以上83未満および中心から５〜10mmの範囲の硬度
    （シヨアーＣ）が中心の硬度より大きくかつ83以
    下であり、外層の直径が36〜40mm、比重が1.30〜
    2.50、硬度（シヨアーＣ）が70〜83であることを
    特徴とするスリーピースソリツドゴルフボール。 ２ カバーがアイオノマー樹脂を主材とする厚さ
    1.4〜2.7mmのカバーである第１項記載のスリーピ
    ースソリツドゴルフボール。
