Abstract

(57)【要約】 【課題】 双方向の音声およびデータ通信を組み込む携
帯通信装置を提供する。 【解決手段】 ハンドセット１００は、可動フラップ１
０４により制御される第１および第２動作モードを有す
る。第１動作モードは、可動フラップ１０４が閉位置に
あるときに、双方向音声通信を行う。第２動作モード
は、フラップ１０４が開位置にあるときに、パーソナル
・オーガナイザを提供する。

【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【産業上の利用分野】本発明は、通信装置に関し、さら
に詳しくは、携帯通信装置に関する。
【０００２】
【従来の技術および発明が解決しようとする課題】コー
ドレス電話およびパーソナル・オーガナイザ(personal
organizer)などの携帯電子装置の数が増えるにつれて、
これらの装置を携帯しやすい軽量で小型の形式に設計す
ることが、ますます優先される。ユーザは、このような
装置の携帯性を享受することができるが、双方向の音声
通信およびデータ通信を自由に使うためには、複数の装
置を同時に持ち運ぶことが依然として必要とされる。コ
ードレス電話およびパーソナル・オーガナイザのために
別々の装置を持ち運ばねばならないことは、ユーザにと
って煩わしいことである。さらに、これらの装置は、通
常、別々の充電装置を必要とし、複数の充電装置を持つ
複数の装置に関わる混乱は、ユーザにとって非常に不便
なものとなることがある。そのため、双方向の音声およ
びデータ通信を組み込む携帯通信装置が必要である。

【実施例】添付の図面の図１は、本発明による携帯無線
機またはハンドセット１００を示す。ここで説明するハ
ンドセット１００は、パーソナル・オーガナイザと共に
双方向の音声通信を提供する。好適な実施例において
は、ハンドセット１００は、第２世代のコードレス電話
（ＣＴ２）であるが、セルラ電話など他の通信装置でも
本発明を採用することができる。ハンドセット１００に
は、ハウジング１０２，ヒンジ１０６を介してハウジン
グに結合されたフラップまたは前面カバー１０４とが含
まれる。フラップ１０４には複数のキーが含まれ、ダイ
アル機能，メニューのスクロールおよびコードレス電話
に関わるその他の同様の機能を行う。ハンドセット１０
０には、無線周波数信号を送信および受信する手段とし
てアンテナ１１０も含まれる。本発明の好適な実施例に
おいては、複数のキー１０８は、フラップ１０４を形成
するための２枚のプラスチック片の間に挟まれたキーパ
ッド膜の一部として含まれる。１枚のゴム片などの他の
材料を用いて、キー１０８を含むフラップ１０４を形成
することもできる。フラップ１０４内には、スクロール
されたメニューやキー１０８を押して生成される情報を
表示するディスプレイ・ウィンドウも含まれる。各キー
の裏側に位置する押圧面(pressure surface)（図２に示
される）は、キーが押されると所定の距離だけ動いて、
スクリーンを損傷することなくタッチ感知式スクリーン
（タッチ・センシティブ・スクリーン）（後で図示）に
対する接触を行う。
【０００４】ヒンジ１０６内には、第１の位置すなわ
ち、開状態と第２の位置すなわち、閉状態との間のフラ
ップ１０４による動きを検出するセンサ・スイッチがあ
る。本発明の好適な実施例においては、ハンドセット１
００はフラップが閉位置にあるときにはＣＴ２電話とし
て動作し、ユーザは前面のキーパッドを通常のＣＴ２電
話機能のために用いることができる。フラップが開いた
ときは、ヒンジ１０６内のセンサ・スイッチがハウジン
グ１００内に位置するコントローラ部に信号を送り、ハ
ンドセットが、当技術では周知のパーソナル・オーガナ
イザとしての機能に切り替わることを知らせる。
【０００５】次に、図２を参照して、フラップ１０４が
開位置にあるときのハンドセット１００が示される。フ
ラップ１０４を開くことによって、ヒンジ１０６内に位
置するスイッチが、フラップ位置の変更を検知して、コ
ントローラ部に信号を送り、これによりハウジング１０
２に結合されたディスプレイまたはレンズ２０２は、パ
ーソナル・オーガナイザとして機能することができる。
フラップ１０４が開位置にあり、ディスプレイ２０２全
体を露出するときは、ユーザはディスプレイ２０２によ
り提供される全機能ライティング・テーブルに対するア
クセスを得て、その上にメモを書いたり，メッセージを
記憶したり，スケッチをしたり，その他のデータ操作を
行う。ディスプレイ２０２は、好ましくは、最小限の圧
力量に反応するタッチ感知式液晶ディスプレイ（ＬＣ
Ｄ:liquid crystal display ）である。ディスプレイ２
０２は、タッチ感知式フィルム、または、データ入力を
受信するその他の同様の手段である。データは、フラッ
プ１０４が閉じるときはキー押圧の形を通じてディスプ
レイ２０２に転送され、フラップが開いたときは、手書
きのデータとして転送される。好ましくは、ハンドセッ
ト１００の側面の保持スリーブ１１４内に位置するスタ
イラス（ペン）１１２が外されて、フラップ１０４が閉
じたときにディスプレイ２０２に手書きのデータを送る
ための筆記具として用いられる。
【０００６】これも図２に示されるように、押圧面２０
４はフラップ１０４内部の上に位置する。フラップ１０
４が閉じた状態で前面からキー１０８が作動されると、
押圧面２０４を介して圧力が、好ましくは、ディスプレ
イ２０２内の各キーに対応するタッチ感知式作動部２０
６に伝わる。各押圧面２０４は、フラップ１０４が閉位
置にあるときには対応する作動部２０６と整合する。各
キーの押し動作がユーザにより開始されると、押圧面２
０４は所定の距離だけ移動して、対応する作動部２０６
と接触する。これらの作動部２０６は、フラップ１０４
が閉じたときのキーの機能を説明する目的のためだけに
図示される。ユーザがフラップ１０４を開けると、作動
部２０６はキーパッドとしてはもはや機能しない。内側
フラップ１０４上には、好ましくはゴム材料から作成さ
れるバンパ２０８も含まれ、これは、フラップ１０４が
閉位置にあるときに、キー１０８とそれに関わる押圧面
２０４とをレンズ２０２の表面から所定の距離だけ離し
て設定する。バンパ２０８は、キーの誤った押し動作を
防ぎ、破損や傷からレンズ２０２を保護する助けとな
る。
【０００７】フラップ１０４が開位置にありハンドセッ
ト１００がパーソナル・オーガナイザとして動作する間
も、信号情報はアンテナ１１０で受信することができ、
ユーザは、着呼の知らせを受信することができる。その
場合、ユーザはフラップ１０４を閉じて、ハンドセット
をコードレス電話として用いて、呼に応答することがで
きる。
【０００８】本発明により説明されたハンドセットは、
双方向音声通信をパーソナル・オーガナイザと組み合わ
せることにより２つの動作モードを提供する。コードレ
ス・ハンドセットとパーソナル・オーガナイザを組み合
わせることにより、ユーザが持ち運ばねばならない電子
装置の数が少なくなる。本発明により説明されたハンド
セットは、単独の充電装置から充電することもできるの
で、複数の充電装置の必要がなくなる。カバーまたはフ
ラップは、閉位置にあるときには、破損およびほこりか
らレンズをより良く保護する。
【０００９】本発明の好適な実施例が図示および説明さ
れたが、本発明がそれに制限されるものでないことは明
かである。添付の請求項により定義される本発明の精神
および範囲から逸脱することなく、数多くの改良，変
更，変形，置換および同等のものが当業者には可能であ
ろう。

Claims (10)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 ハウジング；前記ハウジングに結合さ
    れ、第１位置と第２位置との間で動作するフラップ；前
    記ハウジングに結合されたディスプレイであって、前記
    フラップが前記第１位置にあるときには前記フラップに
    より覆われ、前記フラップが前記第２位置にあるときに
    は露出されるディスプレイ；前記ハウジング内に位置し
    て、キー押圧データと手書きデータとを処理するコント
    ローラ部；および前記フラップが前記第１位置にあると
    きには前記キー押圧データに応答し、前記フラップが前
    記第２位置にあるときには手書きデータに応答する前記
    ディスプレイ；によって構成されることを特徴とする通
    信装置。
  2. 【請求項２】 前記フラップが前記第１位置にあるとき
    に前記キー押圧データを表示するための、前記フラップ
    内のディスプレイ・ウィンドウによってさらに構成され
    る請求項１記載の通信装置。
  3. 【請求項３】 前記フラップが前記第２位置にあるとき
    に前記ディスプレイ上にデータを入力するスタイラスに
    よってさらに構成される請求項２記載の通信装置。
  4. 【請求項４】 前記フラップが前記第１位置にあるとき
    には、前記通信装置がコードレス電話として動作し、前
    記フラップが前記第２位置にあるときには、前記通信装
    置がパーソナル・オーガナイザとして動作する請求項１
    記載の通信装置。
  5. 【請求項５】 前記フラップが前記第２位置にあるとき
    に信号情報を受信する手段によってさらに構成される請
    求項４記載の通信装置。
  6. 【請求項６】 可動カバー；前記可動カバー内に位置し
    て、キー押圧動作を入力するためのキーパッド；前記可
    動カバー内の動きを検出するスイッチ手段；第１および
    第２動作モードを有するディスプレイ手段であって、前
    記第１動作モードが、前記キーパッドから入力された前
    記キー押圧動作を受信する所定の作動部を提供し、前記
    第２動作モードが前記ディスプレイ手段に対する手書き
    データの入力を受信するディスプレイ手段；および前記
    第１動作モード中に前記ディスプレイ手段の前記所定の
    作動部に対する前記キー押圧動作を処理し、前記第２動
    作モード中に前記ディスプレイ手段に対する手書きデー
    タの入力を処理するコントローラ；によって構成される
    ことを特徴とする通信装置。
  7. 【請求項７】 第１動作モードと第２動作モードを有す
    る通信装置において、双方向音声通信を提供する前記第
    １動作モードとパーソナル・オーガナイザを提供する前
    記第２動作モード、および前記通信装置に結合されたフ
    ラップにより構成され、前記フラップが閉位置と開位置
    との間で動作し、キー押圧データ入力を受信するキーパ
    ッドを含み、前記閉位置では前記第１動作モード中のキ
    ー押圧データ入力が可能になり、前記開位置では前記通
    信装置に結合されたディスプレイが露出されて、前記第
    ２動作モード中の手書きデータ入力を受信する通信装
    置。
  8. 【請求項８】 前記フラップの前記開位置および閉位置
    に応答して、前記第１および第２動作モードを制御する
    コントローラ部によってさらに構成される請求項７記載
    の通信装置。
  9. 【請求項９】 前記フラップを前記通信装置に結合する
    ヒンジによってさらに構成される通信装置であって、前
    記ヒンジには前記フラップの前記開位置および閉位置を
    検出するスイッチが含まれ、前記スイッチが、前記フラ
    ップの前記開位置および閉位置に応答して前記コントロ
    ーラに信号を送る請求項８記載の通信装置。
  10. 【請求項１０】 前記第２動作モード中に信号情報を受
    信する手段によりさらに構成される請求項７記載の通信
    装置。
