前記負極活物質は、負極活物質層の全重量を基準として、80重量%から99重量%で含まれてもよい。
実施例1
LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2100gをpH6.5のH3BO3水溶液30mLに混合してpH11の懸濁溶液を製造した。0.5時間反応させた後、150℃で乾燥し、300℃で熱処理することで、表面にLi3BO3を含むLi‐B‐O化合物が10nmの厚さで形成された正極活物質を製造した。
LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2100gをpH6.5のH3BO3水溶液30mLに混合してpH11の懸濁溶液を用いることを除き、前記実施例1と同様の方法を用いて正極及びこれを含むリチウム二次電池を製造した。
Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1(OH)2及びLiOH・H2Oを1:1.03の重量比で混合した後、これを800℃で焼成することで、LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2を製造した。これを25℃以下の蒸留水を用いて洗浄した。前記洗浄されたLiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2とH3BO3を1:0.01の重量比でFM混合器を用いて乾式混合した後、300℃で熱処理することで、表面にLiBO2及びLi2B4O7を含むLi‐B‐O化合物がLiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2の表面に不均一に形成された正極活物質を製造した。前記で製造した正極活物質を用いることを除き、実施例1と同様の方法を用いて正極及びこれを含むリチウム二次電池を製造した。
表面にコーティング層を形成しない実施例1のLiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2を正極活物質として用いたことを除き、前記実施例1と同様の方法を用いて正極及びこれを含むリチウム二次電池を製造した。
LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2100gをpH2のH3BO3水溶液40mLに混合してpH7の懸濁溶液を用いることを除き、前記実施例1と同様の方法を用いて正極及びこれを含むリチウム二次電池を製造した。
LiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1S0.05O2100gをpH8のH3BO3水溶液40mLに混合してpH12.8の懸濁溶液を用いることを除き、前記実施例1と同様の方法を用いて正極及びこれを含むリチウム二次電池を製造した。
前記実施例1及び比較例1で製造した正極活物質に対して、K‐alpha(Thermo Scientific社)装置を用いて、X線光電子分光分析によって前記正極活物質の強度を測定した。前記XPSグラフは、図1に示した。
前記実施例1及び比較例1~4で製造した正極活物質を、それぞれ0kN超過20kN以下の圧延密度で圧縮してペレット状に製造した後、粉体抵抗システム(MCP‐T610、MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL ANALYTECH社)を用いて、前記正極活物質の電気伝導度を下記表1及び図2のように測定した。
前記実施例1~2及び比較例1~4で製造したリチウム二次電池それぞれに対して寿命特性を測定した。

- リチウムを除いた遷移金属の総モル数に対して60モル%以上のニッケルを含むニッケル含有リチウム遷移金属酸化物、及び
前記ニッケル含有リチウム遷移金属酸化物の表面に形成されたリチウム含有無機化合物層を含む正極活物質において、
前記正極活物質は、X線光電子分光分析によって強度を測定したとき、5eV以下の領域で第1ピークが現われ、7eVから13eV領域で第2ピーク、及び20から30eV領域で第3ピークが現われ、前記第1ピークは、第3ピークに対して80から120%のピーク最大値を有する、正極活物質。 - 前記ニッケル含有リチウム遷移金属酸化物は、下記化学式1で表されるものであり、

0≦a≦0.1、0.6≦b≦1.0、0≦c≦0.3、0≦d≦0.3、0≦e≦0.1である、請求項1に記載の正極活物質。 - 前記リチウム含有無機化合物層は、Li3BO3、Li3PO4、LiPO3、LiP2O7、α‐Li4B2O5、β‐Li4B2O5、Li6B4O9、α‐LiBO2、Li2B4O7、Li3B7O12、LiB3O5、及びLi2B8O13からなる群から選択される少なくとも一つを含む、請求項1または2に記載の正極活物質。
- 前記リチウム含有無機化合物層の厚さは1nmから200nmである、請求項1から3のいずれか一項に記載の正極活物質。
- 前記正極活物質を0kN超過20kN以下の圧延密度で圧縮してペレット状に製造した後、測定した電気伝導度が5mS/cmから30mS/cmである、請求項1から4のいずれか一項に記載の正極活物質。
- 無機酸水溶液にリチウムを除いた遷移金属の総モル数に対して60モル%以上のニッケルを含むニッケル含有リチウム遷移金属酸化物を混合し、pH8から12の懸濁溶液を製造する段階、
前記ニッケル含有リチウム遷移金属酸化物と前記無機酸水溶液に含まれる無機酸が反応してリチウム含有無機化合物を形成する段階、及び、
前記懸濁溶液を乾燥して熱処理し、前記ニッケル含有リチウム遷移金属酸化物の表面にリチウム含有無機化合物層を形成する段階を含む正極活物質の製造方法。 - 前記無機酸水溶液はpH6超過pH10である、請求項6に記載の正極活物質の製造方法。
- 前記無機酸水溶液は、ホウ酸、リン酸、塩酸、硝酸、硫酸、炭酸、フッ酸、及び臭化水素酸からなる群から選択される少なくとも一つを含む、請求項6または7に記載の正極活物質の製造方法。
- 前記熱処理は、200℃から500℃で行われる、請求項6から8のいずれか一項に記載の正極活物質の製造方法。
- 請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の正極活物質を含む、リチウム二次電池用正極。
- 請求項10に記載の正極を含む、リチウム二次電池。
