Description
凹部を有するパッケージと、
前記凹部内に配置される発光素子と、
前記凹部の開口部を覆い、透光性を有する透光性部材と、
前記パッケージに接合される枠体と
を備え、
前記透光性部材は、前記パッケージと前記枠体とで挟持されることを特徴としている。
パッケージの凹部内に発光素子を配置する工程と、
前記凹部の開口部を透光性部材で覆う工程と、
前記パッケージに枠体を接合して、前記パッケージと前記枠体とで前記透光性部材を挟持する工程と
を備えることを特徴としている。
パッケージ2は、例えば、セラミックのような耐熱性及び適度な強度を有する材料で形成されると好ましい。セラミックの材料としては、例えば、酸化物系のアルミナ、ムライト、フォルステライト等、窒化物系のAlN等、炭化物系のSiC等が挙げられる。その他、パッケージの材料としては、アルミニウム、銅、銅タングステン、鉄ニッケル合金、コバール等の金属、シリコン等の無機材料、ポリアミド樹脂、ポリフタルアミド樹脂、ガラスエポキシ樹脂等の樹脂材料を用いてもよい。なお、パッケージ2は、枠体5との接続の観点から、枠体5と熱膨張係数が近い材料で形成されることが好ましい。
発光素子3は、底面部21の上面21a(凹部20の底面)の配線上に配置される。発光素子3は、任意の波長の光を出力する半導体発光素子であると好ましく、例えば、基板と、基板上に形成された半導体層と、パッケージ2の配線62と接続される正負の電極と、を有する。半導体層は、少なくとも第1半導体層及び第2半導体層と、その間に活性層を有していると好ましい。半導体層としては、例えば、AlGaN、ZnS、ZnSe、SiC、GaP、GaAlAs、AlN、InN、AlInGaP、InGaN、GaN、AlInGaN等の半導体が用いられる。
透光性部材4は、透光性を有する部材であり、例えば劣化しにくいガラス等であると好ましい。その他、透光性部材4としては、エポキシ樹脂、シリコーン樹脂、ポリアミド樹脂、ポリプロピレン樹脂、アクリル樹脂、ポリカーボネート樹脂などの樹脂や、石英等を用いることができる。透光性部材4は、透明であることが好ましいが、白濁などの不透明であってもよい。透光性部材4には、蛍光体、着色料、光拡散材、フィラー等を含有させてもかまわない。なお、透光性部材4は、熱膨張係数の小さい材料で形成されると、パッケージ2と枠体5との接合の際の割れを防ぐことができる。また、透光性部材4は、パッケージ2及び枠体5と熱膨張係数の差が少ない材料で形成されると好ましい。
枠体5は、パッケージ2と別体であり、異なる材料で形成される。例えば、枠体5はコバール等の金属であると好ましい。なお、枠体5は、コバール以外の金属(例えば、タングステン、鉄ニッケル合金、白金、銅、銅タングステン等)、無機材料(シリコン等)、樹脂材料(ポリアミド樹脂、ポリフタルアミド樹脂、ガラスエポキシ樹脂等)などを用いてもよい。また、パッケージ2と接合されることから、パッケージ2と熱膨脹係数の近い材料で形成されると好ましい。
ワイヤ6は、発光素子3とパッケージ2の配線62とを電気的に接続するためのものであり材料としては、金、銅、銀、白金、アルミニウム又はこれらの合金等の金属を用いることができる。特に、破断が生じにくく、熱抵抗などに優れる金が好ましい。
保護素子7は、ツェナーダイオードやコンデンサ等であり、過電圧印加による発光素子3の破壊を防止するためにパッケージ2に搭載することができる。本実施形態では、保護素子7は、底面部21の上面21aの配線上に配置されている。

Claims (6)
- 凹部を有するパッケージと、
前記凹部内に配置される発光素子と、
前記凹部の開口部を覆い、透光性を有する透光性部材と、
前記パッケージに接合される枠体と
を備え、
前記パッケージおよび前記枠体は、前記透光性部材が配置される切欠を有し、
前記透光性部材の外周面は、前記パッケージの切欠の、前記外周面と対向する内面と、
前記枠体の切欠の、前記外周面と対向する内面とから離間しており、
前記透光性部材は、前記パッケージの上面と前記枠体の下面とが接合されることで前記パッケージと前記枠体とにより挟持され、前記透光性部材で前記パッケージの前記凹部を封止している、ことを特徴とする発光装置。 - 前記枠体の前記切欠の内面は、湾曲面を有する請求項1に記載の発光装置。
- 前記枠体は、前記パッケージと異なる材料からなる請求項1から2の何れか一つに記載の発光装置。
- 前記パッケージは、セラミックからなる請求項1から3の何れか一つに記載の発光装置。
- 前記枠体は、金属からなる請求項1から4の何れか一つに記載の発光装置。
- パッケージの凹部内に発光素子を配置する工程と、
前記凹部の開口部を透光性部材で覆う工程と、
前記パッケージの切欠と前記枠体の切欠とに前記透光性部材を嵌め込み、前記透光性部材の外周面が、前記パッケージの切欠の、前記外周面と対向する内面と、前記枠体の切欠の、前記外周面と対向する内面とから離間した状態で、前記パッケージの上面と枠体の下面とを接合して、前記パッケージと前記枠体とで前記透光性部材を挟持し、前記透光性部材で前記パッケージの前記凹部を封止する工程と
を備えることを特徴とする発光装置の製造方法。
