Description
発泡性マット材料(ミネソタマイニングアンドマニュファクチャリング社が販売のINTERAM(商標)タイプ100マット、3100gsm(1平方メートル当たりのグラム))の層の6.2cm×30cmの長さを、図5Aに示したように切断した。樹脂結合セラミック繊維マット(ICIケミカルズアンドポリマーズ社が販売のSAFFIL(商標)化学結合マット1200gsm)のストリップを1.27cm×9cmの寸法に切断して、発泡性マットの間隙切れ目に置いた。繊維マットストリップはプラスチック包装テープで適所に保持され、ハイブリッド装着マットを形成した。ハイブリッド装着マットは、170mm×80mm×76mm長の卵形セラミックモノリス(コーニング製)の周りをくるんだ。第2のモノリスは同様にして、前述のものと同一のハイブリッド装着マットでくるまれた。くるまれたモノリスは、二重キャビティステンレス鋼触媒コンバーターハウジング内に装着された。装着マットの装着密度は、発泡性マットでは0.7g/cc(1立方センチメートル当たりのグラム)、繊維ストリップでは0.27g/ccに決定された。次いで、ハイブリッド装着マットを含む触媒コンバーターが、3000rpm/220ft lbでガソリンエンジン(フォードモーター社7.5リットル排気量V−8ガソリン内燃機関)に取り付けられた。触媒コンバーターは100時間の間に900℃の入口ガス温度を受けた。
この例でテストされた装着マットは例1と同様に準備されテストされたが、例1で使用されたハイブリッド装着マットの代わりに受け入れ可能な市販の発泡性マット材料を使用したことが異なる。テストの後、装着マットの検査により、装着マット材料はエンジン排気ガスによって腐食されたことが明らかになった。最大腐食距離、すなわち腐食された装着マットの部分は、装着マットの縁内に23mm延在した。ハウジングにかなりの量の変色も認められた。

Claims (4)
- 汚染制御装置が有する汚染制御要素とハウジングとの間隙に配置されて、該汚染制御要素をくるんで該ハウジングの内部に固定する装着マットにおいて、
長さと両横縁とを有する少なくとも1つの発泡性シート材料マットと、
弾性及び可撓性を有した非発泡性繊維材料から形成される少なくとも1つのインサートとを具備し、
前記インサートは、多結晶アルミナ繊維を含むラメラ形態のストリップからなり、該ストリップが、0.020〜0.060g/cmの密度範囲と、前記少なくとも1つの発泡性シート材料マットの前記長さよりも短い幅及び前記長さに等しい長さと、前記少なくとも1つの発泡性シート材料マットの前記横縁の少なくとも一方に沿って該横縁を全長に渡り絶縁するように配置される横縁とを有し、
前記インサートは、前記発泡性シート材料マットに比較して優れた耐腐食性を有し、かつ該インサートの膨張及び圧縮により、前記汚染制御要素と前記ハウジングとの前記間隙の変動に適応できるように構成され、以て、前記汚染制御装置が高温と低温とに繰り返しさらされる間に前記間隙を継続して封止するとともに、高温排気ガスへの暴露による前記少なくとも1つの発泡性シート材料マットの前記少なくとも一方の横縁の腐食を防止すること、
を特徴とする装着マット。 - ハウジングと、該ハウジングの内部に配置される少なくとも1つの汚染制御要素と、該ハウジングと該少なくとも1つの汚染制御要素との間隙に配置されて、該少なくとも1つの汚染制御要素を装置内部で所定位置に装着する装着マットとを具備する汚染制御装置において、
前記装着マットが、請求項1に記載の装着マットからなり、
前記インサートは、前記間隙内で、前記汚染制御要素に対し保持力を発揮しながら高温時の厚さの減少と冷却時の元の厚さへの復元とを繰り返し経験することができるような装着密度に圧縮されていること、
を特徴とする汚染制御装置。 - 前記インサートは、前記間隙内で10倍の装着密度に圧縮されている、請求項2に記載の汚染制御装置。
- 前記インサートは、前記間隙内で0.10〜0.60g/cm3の範囲の装着密度を呈する、請求項2に記載の汚染制御装置。
