Description
発泡性マット材料(ミネソタマイニングアンドマニュファクチャリング社が販売のINTERAM(商標)タイプ100マット、3100gsm(1平方メートル当たりのグラム))の層の6.2cm×30cmの長さを、図5Aに示したように切断した。樹脂結合セラミック繊維マット(ICIケミカルズアンドポリマーズ社が販売のSAFFIL(商標)化学結合マット1200gsm)のストリップを1.27cm×9cmの寸法に切断して、発泡性マットの間隙切れ目に置いた。繊維マットストリップはプラスチック包装テープで適所に保持され、ハイブリッド装着マットを形成した。ハイブリッド装着マットは、170mm×80mm×76mm長の卵形セラミックモノリス(コーニング製)の周りをくるんだ。第2のモノリスは同様にして、前述のものと同一のハイブリッド装着マットでくるまれた。くるまれたモノリスは、二重キャビティステンレス鋼触媒コンバーターハウジング内に装着された。装着マットの装着密度は、発泡性マットでは0.7g/cc(1立方センチメートル当たりのグラム)、繊維ストリップでは0.27g/ccに決定された。次いで、ハイブリッド装着マットを含む触媒コンバーターが、3000rpm/220ft lbでガソリンエンジン(フォードモーター社7.5リットル排気量V−8ガソリン内燃機関)に取り付けられた。触媒コンバーターは100時間の間に900℃の入口ガス温度を受けた。
この例でテストされた装着マットは例1と同様に準備されテストされたが、例1で使用されたハイブリッド装着マットの代わりに受け入れ可能な市販の発泡性マット材料を使用したことが異なる。テストの後、装着マットの検査により、装着マット材料はエンジン排気ガスによって腐食されたことが明らかになった。最大腐食距離、すなわち腐食された装着マットの部分は、装着マットの縁内に23mm延在した。ハウジングにかなりの量の変色も認められた。

- 汚染制御装置が有する汚染制御要素とハウジングとの間隙に配置されて、該汚染制御要素を該ハウジングの内部に固定する装着マットにおいて、

セラミック繊維を含む弾性及び可撓性を有した非発泡性繊維材料から形成される少なくとも1つのインサートとを具備し、
前記インサートは、前記発泡性シート材料層の前記少なくとも1つの横縁に沿って配置されること、

- 汚染制御装置が有する汚染制御要素とハウジングとの間隙に配置されて、該汚染制御要素を該ハウジングの内部に固定する装着マットにおいて、
縁を有する少なくとも1つの発泡性シート材料層と、
セラミック繊維を含む弾性及び可撓性を有した非発泡性繊維材料から形成される少なくとも1つのインサートとを具備し、
前記インサートは、前記発泡性シート材料層の前記縁から延長されるように配置され、該インサートを、装着マットの圧縮によって生じる過剰な圧力の下で最も変形しやすい前記ハウジングの一部分に沿って配置した状態で、該装着マットを前記間隙に配置できるようになっていること、
を特徴とする装着マット。 - 複数の前記発泡性シート材料層と複数の前記インサートとが1つずつ交互に配置される、請求項3に記載の装着マット。
- 前記インサートは、本質的にショットフリーのセラミック繊維から形成される、請求項1〜4のいずれか1項に記載の装着マット。
- 前記インサートは、前記汚染制御装置が高温と低温とに繰り返しさらされる間に、前記発泡性シート材料層から独立して、前記汚染制御要素と前記ハウジングとの前記間隙の変動に適応できるようになっている、請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の装着マット。
- ハウジングと、該ハウジングの内部に配置される少なくとも1つの汚染制御要素と、該ハウジングと該少なくとも1つの汚染制御要素との間隙に配置されて、該少なくとも1つの汚染制御要素を装置内部で位置決めする装着マットとを具備する汚染制御装置において、
前記装着マットが、請求項1〜6のいずれか1項に記載の装着マットからなることを特徴とする汚染制御装置。 - 排気ガスの侵入口を備え、前記装着マットは、侵入する該排気ガスにさらされる横縁を有する、請求項7に記載の汚染制御装置。
- ハウジングと、該ハウジングの内部に配置される第1及び第2の汚染制御要素と、該第1及び第2の汚染制御要素を該ハウジングの内部に固定する装着マットシステムとを具備する汚染制御装置において、
前記装着マットシステムは、
第1の横縁を有する少なくとも1つの発泡性材料層を備えて、前記第1の汚染制御要素と前記ハウジングとの間に配置される第1の装着マットと、
前記第1の横縁に対向する第2の横縁を有する少なくとも1つの発泡性材料層を備えて、前記第2の汚染制御要素と前記ハウジングとの間に配置される第2の装着マットと、
前記第1の装着マットと前記第2の装着マットとの間に配置される金属ストリップと、
弾性及び可撓性を有した非発泡性繊維材料から形成され、前記金属ストリップに沿って配置されるとともに、前記第1の装着マットの前記第1の横縁と前記第2の装着マットの前記第2の横縁との間に配置されるインサートとを具備すること、
を特徴とする汚染制御装置。
