Description

本発明者等は、以下の方法で触媒スラリーおよび触媒コンバーターを製作し、耐久試験とエンジンベンチ評価をおこなって、触媒コンバーターの性能評価をおこなうとともに、第1の上触媒層におけるロジウム担持密度SD1と第2の上触媒層におけるロジウム担持密度SD2の比:SD1/SD2と高負荷NOx浄化率の関係を特定し、さらにSD1/SD2とHC50%浄化時間の関係を特定し、これらの結果からSD1/SD2の最適範囲を規定した。触媒層は以下の表1で示す実施例1〜5、比較例1〜7の12種作成し、各触媒層を備えた触媒コンバーターを製作して耐久試験を実施した。
下触媒層(Pd触媒層)形成用のスラリーの作製に関し、Al2O3複合酸化物65g/Lに硝酸Pd溶液を担体中に含浸させ、1.0質量%の担持粉末を作製した。次いで、CeO2-ZrO2複合酸化物(CeO2/ZrO2/La2O3/Y2O3=30/60/5/5(質量%))を85g/Lと、酢酸Baを10g/L相当と水、Al2O3バインダー、酢酸、増粘剤等を所定量混合し、Pd触媒スラリーを得た。
実機エンジン直下に作製した触媒コンバーターをセットし、A/Fはサイクリックに変化する複合パターン下で床温1000℃で50時間の耐久試験を実施した。
別途の実機エンジンに耐久試験後の触媒コンバーターをセットし、触媒暖機性能を測定するべく、ストイキエンジン始動からHC濃度が50%以下となる時間を測定した。さらに、エンジン高負荷時のNOx浄化性能を測定するべく、車速160km/h相当の運転条件で走行した際のNOx浄化率を測定した。試験結果を以下の表2と図3,4に示す。
Claims (1)
- 排ガスが流通するセル構造の基材と、基材のセル壁面に形成されている触媒層とからなる触媒コンバーターであって、
前記触媒層は、基材の表面において該基材の全長に亘って下触媒層を有し、下触媒層の表面において排ガスの流れ方向の上流側に第1の上触媒層を有し、排ガスの流れ方向の下流側に第2の上触媒層を有しており、
下触媒層は担体と該担体に担持されたパラジウムとから形成されており、
第1の上触媒層は、セリアを含まないジルコニア系複合酸化物からなる担体と該担体に担持されたロジウムとから形成され、かつ該第1の上触媒層中にセリアを含んでおらず、
第2の上触媒層は、セリアを含むジルコニア系複合酸化物からなる担体と該担体に担持されたロジウムとから形成されており、
第1の上触媒層は、基材の前記上流側の端部を起点として基材の全長のX%(30〜70%)の範囲に形成されており、
第2の上触媒層は、基材の前記下流側の端部を起点として基材の全長の100-X%の範囲に形成されており、
第1の上触媒層におけるロジウム担持密度SD1と第2の上触媒層におけるロジウム担持密度SD2の比:SD1/SD2が1以上3以下である触媒コンバーター。
