Description
静電荷像現像用トナーは、前記化学式[1]で示される3,5−ジ−tert−ブチルサリチル酸鉄化合物である荷電制御剤と、結着樹脂と、着色剤とを、トナー構成原料とするものである。
3,5−ジ−tert−ブチルサリチル酸100gと、水酸化ナトリウム30gとを60℃の水1Lに溶解させた。この溶液を、塩化第二鉄43gと水1Lとの溶液に滴下し、90℃で、2時間攪拌して反応させた。この反応液を濾過し、濾取した残渣を洗浄精製し、乾燥後、微粉砕すると、前記化学式[6]で示される3,5−ジ−tert−ブチルサリチル酸鉄化合物を、110g得た。
(実施例1〜3)
スチレン−アクリル酸ブチル共重合体(重量平均分子量Mw=178000,数平均分子量Mn=18000)100重量部、前記合成例1の3,5−ジ−tert−ブチルサリチル酸鉄化合物1重量部、カーボンブラック(MA−100 三菱化学製)6重量部、平均分子量4000のワックス3重量部を予め均一に混合した。これを160℃に加熱された二軸エクストルーダーで溶融混練した。この混練物を冷却後、ハンマーミルで粗粉砕し、さらにジェットミルで微粉砕後、得られた粉砕物を風力で、分級し、7分画の分級粉を得た。各分級粉について前記の方法に従い粒度分布を測定したところ、体積平均粒子径D50が5〜13μmで、粒径分散度(D25/D75)が1.20〜1.50の範囲内で異なった値を有する3分画の分級粉を峻別した。各々の分級粉の分画100重量部に、疎水性シリカ微粉末1.0重量部を加えて乾式混合して、実施例1〜3のトナーを得た。ここで表1において、D25/D75の初期値として表記した。
比較例1及び2として、実施例1〜3と同様に行い、体積平均粒子径D50と粒径分散度(D25/D75)とがこの範囲を外れ異なった値を有する各々の分級粉にも同様に疎水性シリカ微粉末を加えて乾式混合し、比較例1〜2のトナーを得た。表1において同様に、D25/D75の初期値として表記した。
(実施例4)
実施例1で得たトナー5重量部に、キャリアとしてシリコンコートの不定形キャリアを100重量部加えて混合し、製造例1の現像剤を得た。この現像剤の帯電量Q/M(μC/g)を、ブローオフ帯電量測定器MODEL TB−200(東芝ケミカル社製の商品名)により測定した。この現像剤を用いて、市販のレーザビームプリンタにより、転写体であるコピー紙へ画像を形成させた。コピー紙20000枚に画像を形成し、5000枚毎に、ブローオフ帯電量と、体積平均粒子径D50及び粒径分散度(D25/D75)とを測定し、画像の画質を目視にて観察した。
コピー紙上の画像の画質を、以下の4段階で評価した。
○;画像濃度の均一性に優れた良好な出力画像である。
△;画像濃度の均一性にやや欠けるが実用上問題のないレベルである。
△〜×;画像濃度の均一性が悪く、画像にムラが見られ、がさついた出力画像である。
×;画像濃度の均一性が著しく悪く、画像にムラが目立ち、がさついた出力画像である。
実施例5〜6において、実施例4で用いた実施例1のトナーに代えて、実施例2〜3のトナーを用いたこと以外は実施例4と同様にして、実施例5及び6の現像剤を得た。また、比較例5〜8において、実施例4で用いた実施例1のトナーに代えて、比較例1〜4のトナーを用いたこと以外は実施例4と同様にして、比較例5〜8の現像剤を得た。
Claims (4)
- 荷電制御剤と、スチレン及びその置換体の単重合体、スチレン系共重合体、架橋剤で架橋されたスチレン系樹脂、ポリ塩化ビニル、フェノール樹脂、天然変性フェノール樹脂、天然樹脂変性マレイン酸樹脂、アクリル樹脂、メタクリル樹脂、ポリ酢酸ビニル、シリコーン樹脂、ポリエステル樹脂、ポリウレタン樹脂、キシレン樹脂、ポリアミド樹脂、フラン樹脂、エポキシ樹脂、ポリビニルブチラール、テルペン樹脂、クマロンインデン樹脂、及び石油系樹脂から選ばれる結着樹脂と、着色剤とを含有した静電荷像現像用トナーにおいて、
該荷電制御剤は、下記化学式[1]、[3]、[4]
の何れかで示されるアモルファスの芳香族オキシカルボン酸鉄(III)化合物であってその比表面積が、70〜300m 2 /gであり、
該トナーは、その粒子について大きな粒径の粒子からの累積体積粒径が50%となる体積平均粒子径D50を5〜13μmとし、同じく累積体積粒径が25%及び75%となる体積粒子径D25及びD75から算出される粒径分散度(D25/D75)を1.20〜1.50とする粒度分布を有していることを特徴とする静電荷像現像用トナー。 - 前記芳香族オキシカルボン酸鉄(III)化合物の電気伝導度が、200μS/cm以下であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載の静電荷像現像用トナー。
- 間隔をあけて静電潜像担持体に対峙して配置された現像剤担持体上に、請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載の静電荷像現像用トナーが含まれている現像剤を吸着させトナー層を形成する工程と、このトナー層中のトナーをこの静電潜像担持体に吸着させてそれの静電潜像を現像する工程とを有していることを特徴とする画像形成方法。
