Abstract
【解決手段】所定形状を有する炭化珪素質耐火物からなる耐火性ブロック本体1と該ブロック本体1の外表面部分を酸素雰囲気で加熱して少なくとも一部の炭化珪素を酸化して酸化珪素とした焼成被膜層2を有するブロックとした。焼成被膜層2が酸化珪素で焼結されて耐食性が増す。

Description
本発明者は、炭化珪素質耐火ブロックを酸化雰囲気で加熱することにより、表面部分の層により耐食性の増す耐火ブロックとなることに気付き、本発明に至ったものである。
本発明の炭化珪素質耐火ブロックは、ブロック本体と焼成被膜層からなる。炭化珪素質耐火ブロックは、その目的に応じて所定形状を有する。例えば、型枠で成形されたものは所定形状を有することになる。その他にも、断面が一定の長尺状物体を所定間隔で切断したものでも所定形状を有するものとなる。ブロック本体は炭化珪素質耐火物である。ここで、炭化珪素質とは広い意味で炭化珪素を含むことを意味する。焼成被膜層は炭化珪素が酸化して焼成されるため、焼成前のブロック本体に含まれる炭化珪素が少ないと焼成被膜層の形成が困難になる。従って、炭化珪素質としては、耐火ブロックの全成分を100重量%(以下、%は重量%を意味する。)としたとき5%以上の炭化珪素を含むものが好ましい。さらには50%以上の炭化珪素を含むものがより好ましい。
本発明の焼成被膜層は所定形状を有する炭化珪素質耐火物からなる耐火性のブロック本体の表面部分を酸素の存在下で焼成し、表面部分に含まれている炭化珪素成分を酸化して酸化珪素とし、表面部分の焼結を進めたものである。
耐火ブロック本体に焼成被膜層を形成した場合、元の耐火ブロック本体の機械的強度が低いもの程、焼成被膜層形成による耐食性向上の効果は高い。従って、気孔率の低い押圧成形ブロックよりも、気孔率の高いキャスタブルブロックに焼成被膜層を形成した方がより効果的である。しかし、押圧成形ブロックに焼成被膜層を形成しても耐食性向上の効果はある。さらに、キャスタブルブロックや押圧成形ブロックを非酸素雰囲気下で焼成した焼成ブロックをさらに酸素雰囲気下で焼成し、焼成被膜層を形成することも有効である。
本発明の焼成キャスタブル耐火ブロックの一部の拡大断面図を図1に示す。この焼成キャスタブル耐火ブロックは、500mm×500mm×300mmの形状を有し、炭化珪素質耐火物からなる耐火性のブロック本体1と、このブロック本体1の外表面部分を酸素雰囲気中で加熱して少なくとも一部の炭化珪素を酸化して酸化珪素とした焼成被膜層2からなる。
本発明の炭化珪素質耐火ブロック特に焼成キャスタブル耐火ブロックは、圧縮強さが81MPa、曲げ強さが39MPであり、通常のキャスタブル耐火ブロックの圧縮強さが12MPa、曲げ強さが3MPaであることと比較して、極めて高くなっている。耐溶損性については、溶損深さが5.1mmから1.7mmと大きく減少している。また、耐スポール性は維持できている。
2 焼成被膜層
Claims (3)
- 所定形状を有する炭化珪素質耐火物からなる耐火性のブロック本体と該ブロック本体の外表面部分を加熱して少なくとも一部の炭化珪素を酸化して酸化珪素として焼成被膜層を有することを特徴とする炭化珪素質耐火ブロック。
- 前記ブロック本体は型にキャスタブルを流し込んで成形した所定形状のキャスタブルブロック、型内で押圧成形して所定形状とした押圧成形ブロック、所定形状の成形体を焼成した焼成ブロックのいずれか一つである請求項1に記載の炭化珪素質耐火ブロック。
- 前記炭化珪素質耐火物は全体を100重量%としたとき、炭化珪素が5%以上である請求項1または2に記載の炭化珪素質耐火ブロック。
