Abstract
本発明は、離隔された電極活物質粒子を連結する導電剤粒子の経路の一部又は全部を固定するために、溶融粘度が低いワックスを使用することで、電気化学素子の工程性及び安全性を向上できる。
Description
リチウムコバルトオキサイド:導電剤としてカーボンブラック:ポリフッ化ビニリデン:ポリエチレンワックス=93:3:2:2の重量比でN−メチル−2−ピロリドン(NMP)に分散させてスラリーを製造した後、このスラリーをアルミニウムホイルにコーティングし、150℃で十分に乾燥した後、圧着して正極を製造した。圧着後の正極のコーティング厚は、アルミニウムホイルを除いて70μmであった。電気抵抗バインダーとして用いられたポリエチレンワックスは、粒径が10μm、溶融点が90℃、溶融粘度が140mPa.s以下であるものを用いた。負極はリチウム金属を用い、分離膜はセルガード製のA250を用い、電解液は1M LiPF6濃度のEC/EMC(1:2)(重量基準)液体電解質を注入して、コインセルを製造した。
リチウムコバルトオキサイド:導電剤としてカーボンブラック:ポリフッ化ビニリデン=94:3:3の重量比でスラリーを製造した以外は、実施例1と同様な方法によりコインセルを製造した。
実施例1及び比較例1により製造された各電池に対し、電池の表面温度が常温から140℃まで増加するとき、抵抗増加推移を図3のグラフに示す。実施例1の場合は、95℃から抵抗の増加が始まって105℃の前後に抵抗が大きく増加し、120℃付近では初期抵抗の5倍以上の抵抗増加が発生し、130℃付近では分離膜のシャット−ダウンにより気孔が閉鎖されて、電池の抵抗が100倍以上増加した。これに対し、一般の電池である比較例1の場合は、120℃まで継続的に抵抗が減少していて、130℃付近で前述したような分離膜のシャット−ダウンにより抵抗が100倍以上増加した。
実施例1のコインセルと同一の構成比で正極を製造した。また、人造黒鉛:導電剤:ポリフッ化ビニリデン=93:1:6(重量比)で負極スラリーを作って負極を製造した。分離膜はセルガード製のA250を用い、1M LiPF6濃度のEC/EMC(1:2)(重量基準)液体電解質を注液して、一般のスタック及び畳み込み法によりICP383562(容量800mAh)のフルセルを製造した。
比較例1のコインセルと同一の構成比で正極を製造した以外は、実施例2と同様な方法によりICP383562(容量800mAh)のフルセルを製造した。
前記製造された実施例2及び比較例2のセルを過充電させて(12V/1C)温度及び電圧の変化をそれぞれ図5に示す。図5に示すように、比較例2の場合は、過充電によりセルの発火や爆発が発生したが、ポリオレフィンワックスを含有した実施例2のセルは、表面温度が120℃付近まで上昇しても、発火や爆発のなしに安全であった。

前記電極活物質を連結する導電剤粒子の経路の一部又は全部が、前記ワックスにより固定されていることを特徴とする、電極。 - 前記ワックスが、ポリオレフィン系ワックスであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記ワックスの溶融粘度が、10〜1000mPa.Sであることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記ワックスの粒径が、20μm以下であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の電極。
- 前記ワックスの分子量が、10,000以下であることを特徴とする、請求項1に記載の電極。

前記正極、前記負極又はこれらの両方が、請求項1〜7の何れか一項に記載された電極であることを特徴とする、電気化学素子。 - 電気化学素子の内部温度が前記ワックスの溶融温度以上に上昇する際、前記ワックスが溶融されて流動することで、前記ワックスにより固定された導電剤粒子間の連結が断絶されることを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の電気化学素子。
- 電気化学素子が、リチウム二次電池であることを特徴とする、請求項8に記載の電気化学素子。
- a)i)電極活物質粒子と、ii)導電剤粒子と、iii)結合剤と、及びiv)ワックスが溶媒に分散されたスラリーを製造する段階と;
b)前記スラリーを集電体にコーティングし、乾燥し、圧着して電極を製造する段階と;及び、
c)前記電極を備えた電気化学素子を組立てて非水電解質を注入する段階を含んでなる、電気化学素子の製造方法。
