Abstract

Description
オービタル溶接プロセスとは対照的に、図1は、摩擦攪拌突き合わせ溶接に使用される、肩部12及びこの肩部から外方に延びるピン14を持つ全体に円筒形の工具10を含むことを特徴とする工具の斜視図である。十分な熱が発生するまで、ピン14を加工物16に当てて回転し、工具のピンを可塑化した加工物材料に押し付ける。加工物16は、多くの場合、二枚のシート又はプレート状の材料であり、接合線18のところで互いに突き合わせられる。ピン14を接合線18のところで加工物16に押し付ける。ピン14を材料16に当てて回転移動させることによって発生した摩擦熱により、加工物材料を融点に達することなく軟化する。工具10を接合線18に沿って横方向に移動することによって、可塑化した材料がピンの周囲で前縁から後縁まで流れるときに溶接部を形成する。その結果、加工物材料16とほぼ区別が付かない固相結合部20が接合線18のところに形成される。
様々な試みがなされてきたけれども、MMCs、鉄合金、及び超合金を機能的に溶接できる工具は形成されなかった。これらの試みの幾つかは、実験中、本発明者が非鉄合金を摩擦攪拌溶接できる現存の工具を変更しようと初めて試みたときに明らかになった。読者が本発明を実施できるように工具のこれらの試み及び進化を論じる。
図4は、配管23と26との間の継ぎ目の内側にこの継ぎ目に沿って配置されたアンビルアッセンブリ21の斜視図である。アンビルアッセンブリ21は、配管のOD上の工具12(図1参照)により配管23及び26が潰されることがないように、配管23及び26の内径(ID)に逆方向の力を提供する。アンビルアッセンブリ21は、二つの外ハブ20、22、及び内ホイール24を含む。内ホイール24は、配管23及び26のIDに力を及ぼす。
図11は、平らでない表面で所望の摩擦攪拌溶接を行うのに使用できる別の種類のアンビルの図である。この場合、消費可能なマンドレル100が配管102の内部に配置される。消費可能なマンドレル100は、ODに摩擦攪拌溶接が行われるときに配管のIDに必要な逆方向の力を提供できる任意の材料でできていてもよい。消費可能なマンドレル100は、摩擦攪拌溶接を行った後に配管102の内部から除去できる高圧塩又は他の溶解性材料でできている。消費可能なマンドレル100は、かくして、配管102から文字通り洗い出される。消費可能なマンドレル100の材料を配管102内に形成でき、又は配管102に単一のユニットとして挿入できる。
図13は、摩擦攪拌溶接を平らでない表面に行うことができるように配管のIDに逆方向の力を提供する別の手段として提供される。この図は、配管122のIDに対して操作される楔120を示す。この種のアンビルの利点は、移動が容易であるということである。楔120が動かないようにするため、追加の支持が必要とされる。
図18は、図17に示す配管180、182及びリング184の斜視図である。
図17、図18、及び図19に示すリング184は、配管180、182のOD及びIDの上下に材料のリングを提供する。しかしながら、用途に応じてこの他の形状のリングを使用してもよい。例えば、図20は、内押縁を持つが配管のODの上方に突出する押縁を備えていないリング200を示す。図21は、丁度逆を示す。リング202はODの上方の押縁を含むが、IDの下に突出した押縁を備えていない。図22は、押縁を備えていないリング204を示す。このリング204は配管の整合を補助しないが、同じ又は新たな材料を配管間の溶接部に導入するのに役立つ。

Claims (1)
- 高融点の鉄合金及び非鉄合金、及び超合金の平らでない表面の摩擦攪拌溶接を機能的に行うことができる摩擦攪拌溶接システムにおいて、
少なくとも一部に配置された超研磨材、肩部、及びピンを含み、前記超研磨材は第1状態及び第2状態を有し、配管の平らでない表面の外径(OD)に配置された、摩擦攪拌溶接工具、
前記摩擦攪拌溶接工具を冷却するように配置された冷却システム、及び
前記摩擦攪拌溶接工具によってODに加えられた力に抗するように前記配管の内径(ID)に当てて配置された支持マンドレルを有し、この支持マンドレルは、前記配管との拡散溶接が起こらないようにするコーティングを含む、摩擦攪拌溶接システム。
