Abstract
【解決手段】 金属基板100と、この金属基板100に設けられたゲート電極106群およびソース電極111群と、これらゲート電極106群とソース電極111群との各交点に配された画素電極114と、ゲート電極106群およびソース電極111群を駆動するゲート線駆動回路125およびソース線駆動回路126とを備える。そして、金属基板100の基板電位を、所定の電位に制御する制御手段を有する。

Description
図2(a)に、本実施形態に係る電気泳動方式の表示装置の模式的な断面図を示す。図2(b)に、本実施形態の300行×250列をなすTFTアクティブマトリクスアレイの一部分の模式図を示す。なお、図2(a)中の部分B,Cは、図2(b)中の部分B,Cの断面図に対応している。
さらに、この表示パネル10は、基板絶縁層101上にTFTアクティブマトリクスが形成され、導電性を有する金属基板100と、基板絶縁層101上に形成されたTFTアクティブマトリクスアレイ内に配されたドレイン電極112またはドレイン電極112と同電位である電極(不図示)との間で、保持容量が形成されて、一定の電位にされている。
第2の実施形態の表示パネルについて、図面を参照して詳細に説明する。図3(a)に、本実施形態の表示装置の模式的な断面図を示す。図3(b)に、図3(a)中の部分Dを拡大した断面図を示す。

Claims (20)
- 導電性基板と、該導電性基板に設けられたX方向配線群およびY方向配線群と、マトリクス状に配された画素とを備える表示装置用パネルにおいて、
前記導電性基板の基板電位を、所定の電位に制御する制御手段を有することを特徴とする表示装置用パネル。 - 前記制御手段は、前記導電性基板の基板電位を略一定にする請求項1に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記導電性基板上には基板絶縁層が形成され、該基板絶縁層上に前記X方向配線群および前記Y方向配線群が形成され、
前記X方向配線群および前記Y方向配線群の内のいずれかの配線または該配線に電気的に接続された電極と、前記導電性基板との間で電気的容量を形成する請求項1に記載の表示装置用パネル。 - 前記電気的容量によって画像情報を保持する請求項3に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記画素を駆動するTFT素子をさらに有し、前記電極は、前記TFT素子のドレイン電極、または該ドレイン電極と電気的に接続されている画素電極である請求項3または4に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記ドレイン電極または前記画素電極と、前記導電性基板との間に位置する前記基板絶縁層の一部が選択的に除去されている請求項5に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 前記TFT素子が逆スタガー構造である請求項5に記載の表示装置用パネル。
- 請求項1に記載の表示装置用パネルと、前記X方向配線群および前記Y方向配線群を駆動する駆動手段と、を有することを特徴とする表示装置。
- 前記導電性基板の基板電位は、前記駆動手段のいずれかの電位と同電位である請求項8に記載の表示装置。
- 前記導電性基板の基板電位は、前記駆動手段の電源電圧のいずれか1つと同電位である請求項9に記載の表示装置。
- 更に、前記画素を駆動するためのTFT素子を有する請求項8ないし10のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記導電性基板の基板電位は、前記TFT素子のドレイン電極、または該ドレイン電極と電気的に接続されている画素電極のいずれにも電気的に接続されずに独立して設けられた容量形成用電極の電位と同電位である請求項11に記載の表示装置。
- 前記導電性基板の基板電位は、前記TFT素子のゲート電極およびソース電極の少なくとも一方の電位と同電位である請求項11に記載の表示装置。
- 前記駆動手段によって、ドット反転駆動、垂直ライン反転駆動、水平ライン反転駆動、フレーム反転駆動のいずれかで、前記画素に印加する電圧の極性が反転される際、共通電極電位を変調させて駆動するときに、前記導電性基板の基板電位は、前記共通電極電位の変調と同期され、前記基板電位と前記共通電極電位との間の電位差が常にほぼ一定となるよう制御される請求項8に記載の表示装置。
- 前記TFT素子の活性層は、アモルファスシリコンである請求項11に記載の表示装置。
- 前記TFT素子の活性層は、ポリシリコンである請求項11に記載の表示装置。
- 前記TFT素子および前記X方向配線群および前記Y方向配線群は、前記導電性基板上に転写されて形成されている請求項11に記載の表示装置。
- 導電性基板上に基板絶縁層が設けられ、該基板絶縁層上に走査電極と情報電極とがマトリクス状に配線されてなるマトリクスアレイ基板と、
前記走査電極を駆動する第1の手段および前記情報電極を駆動する第2の手段を有する駆動手段と、
前記マトリックスアレイ基板に対向して配置された第2の基板と、
前記マトリックスアレイ基板および前記第2の基板の少なくとも一方の基板に、一方の電極が設けられた一対の電極と、
前記マトリックスアレイ基板と前記第2の基板との間に設けられた光学変調素子とを備え、
前記マトリックスアレイ基板と前記電極との間で電気的容量を形成する表示装置。 - 前記光学変調素子は、電気泳動粒子と、該電気泳動粒子が分散されている媒質とを有する請求項18に記載の表示装置。
- 前記電気的容量によって画像情報を保持することを特徴とする請求項18または19に記載の表示装置。
