Abstract

920,721. Insulating cable joints; cable terminations. BRITISH TELECOMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH Ltd. April 7, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 12385/60. Addition to 860,048. Classes 36 and 38 (1). In a modification of a cable joint or cable termination, the subject of the parent Specification, the exposed end of a sheathed electric cable 30 is sealed by means of a hollow metal casing 1, comprising a gland portion 4, enclosing the exposed cable conductors and filled with a coldsetting synthetic resin 52, e.g. " Araldite " (Registered Trade Mark) X83/19 or X83/38, which penetrates into the interior of the cable and sets to form a resilient mass adhering to the casing and to the exposed parts of the cable. The end of the casing may be closed by a disc 44, carrying terminal 47 connected to the outer sleeve 48, coupling the outer conductors 33, 40 of coaxial cables 32 and 38, and terminals 45, the disc being temporarily attached to the vertically held easing by screws 16 during the pouring of the liquid resin into the metal casing through holes 51 and during the setting process. The casing 1 and sealing cap 11 may be covered by a layer of corrosion-resistant epoxy resin and a layer of self-amalgamating insulating tape.
