Abstract

1,197,426. Electric couplings. FARGO MFG. CO. Inc. 13 May, 1969, No. 24293/69. Reading H2E. An electric coupling for interconnecting cables comprises a conductive body coated in insulation 26 having bored arms 24 into each of which may be inserted a cable, a split conductive gland 14 being forced into the tapered end of the bore and on to the bared end 40 of the cable by a hollow insulative bolt 16, seals being effected between bolt 16, insulation 26 and the cable sheath 42 by a resilient insulative washer 18 and means S. Means S comprises a nut 22 having an inner shoulder 62 which forces a soft plastics sealing grommet 20 into the tapered end of the bore of bolt 16, of hard plastics. Alternatively, Means S comprise a shrinkable tube (82, Figs. 6, 7, not shown) placed on the end of the bolt and the cable sheath. Tube (82) is shrinkable either by the application of chemicals or of heat, in which case it is composed of silicone rubber. Washer 18 is composed of plastics or rubber. Insulative coating 26 is formed of durable hard vinyl by a dip coating process. When a cable is not inserted in an arm 24, the arm may be sealed, and insulated by the insertion of an insulative cap (68, Fig. 4, not shown).
