Abstract

1445681 Connector SMITHS INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Dec 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45006/72 Heading H2E To couple an insulated cable to a sparking plug via a suppressor 13, elastomeric connector body 10 carries contacts 16, 17 urged towards caps 14, 15 of suppressor by body ridges 18, 19 slightly forced apart by contacts and suppressor. Contact 17, with castellated flared end and longitudinal slot engaging respectively inward castellations and longitudinal rib 26 in body, accepts the sheath of an insulated cable end, with conductor engaged by tags 24. Teeth 25 pointing towards suppressor 13 and twisted into arcs of helices of the same sense retain cable sheath when it is screwed into contact 17. Body extension 28 provides a seal and cable guide. At the other end contact 16 receives a sparking plug terminal, while the body extension seals round or beyond the convoluted part of the plug insulator.
